Considering that you get 50 dollars off the ATI MSRP:

Radeon 9700 Pro 399.99
Trade-in price - 50.00
Cost 349.99
Shipping 15.00 - 20.00
Cost 364.99 - 369.99

Considering you can order a Radeon 9700 Pro from newegg for 365.00 + free shipping, this doesn't seem like that great of a deal, especially considering that if you order one from somewhere else, you get to keep your old video card. This can be especially useful if you're upgrading from a GF4TI series... because lets face it, those cards aren't that bad. I'm sure you can find several people who would be willing to buy a GF4TI4200 for 50 bucks, and go up from there if you have a 4400 or 4600.

Now, if you look around (pricewatch) you can find a retail 9700 Pro for as little as 350. You can get a OEM powered by ATI card for as little as 310. Stuff like this make ATI's trade-in program look more like a PR-decision rather than one to really help consumers.

BTW, what card do you have now, and what were you looking to upgrade to?

I'm not worried about how much I can get for an old V3 pci card, or other ancient card I have laying around :)

Of course I wouldn't bother with this on a 9700pro as ATI's msrp is higher than what online retailers are offering the card for w/out any $50 off coupon.

I'm talking about the $449 All-In-Wonder 9700pro pre-order bundle with the freebie TV Tuner. Its not gonna be much cheaper on release than its msrp, and the TV tuner is just bonus. $50 off is just another way of knocking that price tag down for a sick card and a bonus TV tuner.

As for my current card, I have a GF4 Ti4200 Turbo which I obviously wouldn't send in for a measly $50. I'd unload it for close to what I paid on the FS/FT forums :D

Will they accept my several year old ATI Xpert 128 16MB? I'm leaning towards the Radeon 7500 for my other computer.

True, I never really thought about sending in an old Savage3D PCI I have laying around for the 50 bucks. But then its not really 50 bucks, its 35-30. And even on the release f the AIW 9700 Pro, you should be able to find one online for 30-35 dollars less already.

Like I said, I belive this is more of a 'oh look what we do for the public' kind of thing rather than a serious promotion.

However, if ATI wants to change my mind, they could change the program in this way (hope they're reading):

ONE:
Let me buy a 'Built-by-ATI' graphics card at any retailer (retail only, not OEM, and not 'Powered by ATI')
Allow me to send in a copy of my reciept, along with my video card, and send me a 50 dollar check

TWO:
Let me send in my Graphics card
send me a 50 dollar manufacturers cupon for me to use when I buy a new one.

that would get me on the program :)
