We currently pay about $165/month for an AT&T family plan with an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4s. I see that they have new MobileShare plans coming out in the next few weeks that will cut our bill to about $130/month ($40 for 1GB data, $45/each phone) while giving us more data and unlimited talk/messaging. This is great, but while researching that I came across Straight Talk that offers $45/month unlimited everything on the AT&T network. This sounds great, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with it? I realize that I'm essentially losing the phone purchase subsidy, which is a big chunk of my current monthly bill. This means I'll need to stick with our current phones for a while or purchase upgrades for full price. Saving $40/month is $480/year, which definitely seems to pay for the lost subsidy, especially since my wife never really cares about upgrading. Thoughts?

I've used it. Its fine, although ST is ambiguous about data usage, if you use too much in a day or whatever they might cut off your data and you have to call and convince them to turn it back on.

Also you'll need a sim card cutter to fit the straight talk sim card. And need to set up APN settings to enable data. And mms won't work without some hackery IIRC

People tend to restrict themselves to 2GB per month. The hack is fairly easy. Got an iphone 4 from CL for under 300$ and gf has been using it 5 months now. 3G is very slow, you will need to phone in for them to change to higher tier.
