I am just trying to switch host computers that connect to the cable modem. For some reason, when switching over it does not accept the connection on my new machine. I don't believe rr assigns the connection by mac address so it should just automatically connect (I would think). I have installed rr medic (out of curiousity) with no luck.

any ideas?

turn off the modem and turn it back on with the new computer?

will second that. You need to turn off the modem and disconnect it and let it sit for a couple of minutes and then turn it back on

Only for the Cable modem, not the computer...
You sure about that? I've had to clone mac addresses for clients when they moved from a single pc to a router setup.

I called Tech Support one day when I was messing around with some settings. According to him the only MAC they care about is the modem MAC. Everything else they can get if they want to...

RR in houston, TX registers the MAC address of the first computer connected. Doing a MAC address clone will solve the problem.

for tampa bay RR here in FL, you have to turn off the modem then turn it back on after a minute. the modem locks it self to the mac address of whatever device it first detects

When talking to tech support, they actually told me to turn it off and completely disconnect the modem for 15 minutes (unplug power, network, and cable lines) before putting it on the new computer. And make sure you turn your computer on before the cable modem.

Roadrunner around here only cares about the cable modem and the number of computers connected. As long as the modem doesn't see more than 3 mac addresses they don't care.

I have never had to power down the modem when switching computers.

Some divisions do base it on the MAC of the NIC.
