Anyone use road hazard protection free replacement at Discount tire.

When I got my tires from them, I splurged extra money for the road hazard protection. Well, today, I was backing into parking spot and I rubbed my wheel on the curb, I thought it would be no big deal, but then I looked at it, and there was a gash in the sidewall down to the fabric lining. Now I am trying to figure out what is and isn't covered.

Ever hit something in the road that ruins your tire? Or how about a tire that becomes defective? Who cares about why this happened? You just want a new tire put on with no hassles. Right? Right! So we tried it.

The part I am concerned about is:

Would curb rash be classified as accident or run on damage?
 
i think its more along the line of hitting something in the road and blowing out the tire. its tire damage from the user, not from the manufacturer or hitting something in the road. seeing the fabric of the tire....there should still be a steel belt and then another lining under that as well. it wont last as long as you like, but it should be good for a little while.
 
Well, I called Discount Tire, and talked to a manager in customer satisfaction, and he said it IS covered under their plan. 😀
 
I have, they covered a nice piece of glass in my tire.

Basically, that clause doesn't cover things like doing burnouts 🙂
edit: or people slashing tires to get free replacements.

If that manager said that get that manager's name and fight tooth and nail if they give you problems when you take the car in. Someone's mistake can be your benefit. But, if he said that it's probably true.

It's true. I took it in to get checked out this morning. The local guy said the tire has to be replaced and that it's gonna be completely free under road hazard coverage and it covers curb damage, though a few years back it didn't. I guess by accident exemption they mean if you were in a crash or something with the tire getting damage, then presumably it would be covered by your insurance, and not their road hazard coverage.
He ordered the tire for me already. I guess spending $15 per tire paid off 🙂
I had the tires put on Saturday morning and only had about 20 miles on that tire too before my little curb adventure 😀 I guess it's a good time to do it since the wear will still be similar on all tires.
 
How hard did you have to back into that curb?

I'll be honest, I've hit the curb plenty of times when parallel parking...even scuffed the rim once...but it has never done any real damage to the tire.

Pretty damn hard 🙂 Also, these are low profile tires, so there is much less flex in the sidewall.
