I don't have a long run. I just think it would be easier and cleaner to run the thinner cables.

RM1689 IC — a semiconductor device which runs on very little power, so it can draw the current it needs through the HDMI signal itself. It allows HDMI cables to be manufactured at lower cost with the same results as regular HDMI cables. By using a lot less copper, it allows for thinner and more flexible cables.

HDMI is pretty thin as it is, but if they work better for you being thinner then REDMERE is the way to go. The only way you can tell if equivalent is to try. I have found the only way to see differences in decent cables is with electronic meters.

I have also found at times you can't just say HDMI>Component>S-Video

For most modern devices though, HDMI all the way seems to always be the best approach.

I have been using HDMI cables since 2006. I have found that regular HDMI cable tend to be inflexible and fat, especialy the longer cables and I have damaged few cables just moving them around. By all account, the redmere cables are a vast improvement. Thinner, more flexible, can be made longer and are more aesthetically pleasing. I used to have compatibility problems with the older regular HDMI cables where my PC would not see the TV requiring a full reboot. The problem disappeared the moment I switched to redmere cables.

I highly recommend them. Just don't forget that they are directional.

Well worth the money.

Even the "Ultrathin" redmere cables aren't that thin, they are probably ~26awg, they are definitely thicker than 28awg which I have plenty of, but thinner than the big 24awg cables I used to use before switching the redmere. Although I don't know how much LAN is adding to redmere thickness because all my other cables are hdmi 1.3.

50 foot redmere cable has no problems with hdcp with my ps3 playing blu rays.
