OK I've been eating pearled barley since last year before the store quit carrying it along with dried split peas. I discovered  that with brown rice(but now white) and split peas along with the barley together, and the result is nice and tender.
I wonder why in Hell did the local Ruler foods quit carrying split peas and barley? Either that or both items are sold out when I go to the store.
So does anyone cook with pearled barely?
