I've been on it for about 4 years, and really haven't had any trouble, that I couldn't resolve by myself in a hour or so, and that rarely. For the price I'm willing to put up with the minor inconveniences. That being said, I know a couple of non-tech savvy people who can't stand it and say it's gone downhill in the past year.

Anyone know how there Virtual Phone Number works? They don't offer service in my area so I will have to sign up with a different area code and get the Virtual Phone Number for a extra $4.99 a month before ppl can call me and it not be long distance. My main question is whats it mean by 100 mins? If someone calls me mins start going down or only till I answer the phone?

Why not just get your main number in the area thats local to your friends/family?

I'm confused. You said you wanted to get a virtual # so that people you know could call you locally?

Which area does is not offered- The one you live in now? Or the one where people you know live?

the one I live in aswell as the ppl I know live in. Me, my family and friends live in a 606 area code which isn't offered. Am I missing something with their service? Thats why I came here hope someone with the service could help me out.

Virtual Numbers can only be offered in the same places you can register a regular # in.... They are meant as a second phone number for the same line, a "virtual number" in another area code that can dial back into your main number... If they don't offer a 606 number for your regular line, you likely cant get a 606 virtual either.

For instance, our main Vonage line has a 941 area code. When I was living in Oxford, UK for the summer, i got a local Oxford "virtual" number so i could pick up any phone (or my cell), dial a local Oxford number, and have it ring back at home in Florida.

When I called them from a friends house they told me I could get a different area code that was offered and the pay a extra $4.99 a month and get a 800 number so anyone can call me. Is that what your talking about? I looked online and my local phone company wants $49.99 for unlimited long distance which is it high IMO.

What I don't understand is the 100mins thing.

Ahhh, ok, i thought you wanted to get a virtual 606 number...

The way the 1800 number works is that the minutes are seperate from your normal minutes with your plan.

If someone calls you on the 800 number and you pick up, you get 100 minutes included, 4.9c each additional. Outgoing calls are not billed against this 100 minutes, they go against either your standard 500 or unlimited plan.

So if someone calls me using the 1800 number and talks for the 100mins after that it starts charging me? If so I am probably better off telling them I'll call them right back after they call? Actually most everyone I know have a cell phone or has unlimited long distance so they could just call my other number right?

My GF's family live out of town so they would mostly need the 1800 number to reach us.

looking at packet8 again they offer my area code but want $66.xx for activation,first month and shipping fees. I found a $20 off coupon online now if I can find someone to refer me I can save $20-$30 more according to what I been reading. Anyone here happen to have packet8?
