Does anyone use Ooma?

My family and I are considering it and would like to hear from some real people who have/are using it.

We have tried Vonage in the past and didn't like it at all, line quality was bad, connections kept getting dropped etc.

I realize the problems I had with Vonage were probably directly attributable to our broadband provider at the time and may give them another try to see if there service is worthwile again.

Would appreciate any comments good or bad to help us make a more informed decision.

Our current broadband provider is Comcast in Virginia

Thanks!

yeah , my parents have it. it's paid for itself in 10 months. using it on a fios line and haven't had any complaints, quality is excellent. much better than the vonage line we have in india (although that might be affected by shitty dsl there)

the first users who got in on it have it free for life.

i bought it around 11 months ago, and after 2 years or something I have to start paying a ~$12 a year regulatory fee. be sure to read the fine print. it is still a great deal IMHO.

I've had it for quite some time and am very happy with it.
It has built in QOS, so be sure to put your network behind the Ooma, otherwise you may have sound quality issues.

Thank you both for the info!

Will definately be looking into the "fine print" before making the purchase

i've got my ooma box behind my fios router with no specific qos set up, and I haven't had any issues. i guess it all depends on your network and internet connection. my parents don't do much heavy downloading at all so that is probably a factor to consider when placing the ooma box

Fios has a pretty fast up/down connection, so the QOS is not as much of an issue. I'm running on DSL and while the download (what you hear on the phone) has no issues, the upload (what the other person hears) can get choppy if your computer is sending data while you're on the phone. This is with a 750K upload connection, which is relatively slow. Letting Ooma's QOS handle it, solved this problem.

We've had ours for about 2 years now without any issues. I never use it my self, but my wife insisted we have some sort of land line and it works well.

I had it for couple of years now so I'm grandfathered in on the free calls for life. I love the device. When I had crappy slow dsl, the call quality on the other end wasn't so great. But since I switched to faster cable internet the call quality has been great. The unit paid for itself in about 4 months and now I don't have to pay for home phone til Ooma goes out of business.

I had packet8 for a few years and I switched to Ooma about a year ago. Pretty good service and better than packet8. Clear voice and have had no disruptions.
I'd recommend it.
