Anyone use Microsoft Encarta?

I just got Encarta 2004 and it kicks major a**. I love it. I can now do the research I need without ever leaving my apartment. It's like a mini library. I like the interactive 2D and 3D tours, videos from the Discovery Channel, etc.. It has a homework center that looks pretty sweet. You can update Encarta on a daily basis to keep current. I just got the software and I love it.

Does anyone come close to Encarta?

yeah, but it gets old despite updates because they eventually run out, and then u have to buy another new version. google works better 😀

I've got free use to SBC yahoo's online britanica with my dsl deal. Great resource. My sis in high school uses it all the time. Another realy good pay service I used a lot in college is Lexus Nexus. You want quotes, they got quotes. It was free to use through my school but I thikn they charge somthing like $10 a month outside.

used it awhile ago (2001 maybe?) works awesome if ya need an encyclopedia, lots cheaper than a stack of Britannica's(sp).

i remember using a bunch of these during my college years...beats the hell out of
going to the damn library at 9pm.

Thta's why you buy the Encarta Reference edition.

But as others have said, I can find anything I need to know with Google.

I got the 2003 DVD, with the first few refomats it got installed. But lately I'm just not interested in it, if it had more multimedia maybe...

what is this, 1996? i didn't even know people still used encyclopedia cd-rom's anymore

it's called the INTERNET

True, but Encarta puts all the information in a simple package. The internet can be a unweilding mess and at times you don;t even know if the information is even correct. So this is why I went with the Encarta, and so far I'm happy with my purchase.

True, Google is your freind for information but a package like Encarta is better for overall learning (less internet clutter/junk)
Encarta's scrolling TimeLine is pretty much something i can't live without. I learned all about beer and wine on Encarta too.. LOL

tec699, i also love the 2D and 3D tours 🙂

what are you waiting for.. LOL
Later tonite, when you're totally wasted and buzzing... play with the scrolling timeline ----> your noggin will spin 😛

I guess it's ok for junior high or early high school assignments, but if you're beyond that level of education, an encyclopedia just doesn't offer the level of detail required for serious research.

I can't recall if it was MS Encarta or wasn't, but I use to peruse through a CD encyclopedia back in the early 90s with a 1X cd player.

yeah...its okay for middle school or some high school research. it was useless for me after i needed like 10 primary sources for my papers. and NO WAY in hell would i put "microsoft encarta" as one of the primary sources.
