Forget Lindows. Windows has no redeeming software if you are not into games. And if you are into games, the XBox, ps2, and gamecube can take care of that addiction.

that why the new UIs for lonix rip off dialog boxes straight from windows, thats why they try soo hard to use directX with wine, thats why they have a hissy fit when they cant get their samba servers to connect to windows shares properly.

Their error messages are typically better. I dont use KDE/Gnome much. The only machine I have that has KDE and Gnome installed is used as a telnet/ssh terminal 😀

They. I personally dont have any use for WINE. I think its pretty dumb since I would have to then worry about Windows viruses.

I only run SAMBA so Windows machines can pull stuff off of my Unix-like systems. I use scp and sftp between Unix-like systems. Its safer and smarter.

The previous comment I made is my opinion, so please, no one get their panties in a bunch because I dont like most Windows software. Thanks.

There i s no perfect OS, no matter what anyone tells you. I run XP Pro on my machine at home and I do some light gaming. I also run a RH8 server that functions as a file server, web server, and mail server. All of that is connected to Window through Samba and is complete integrated. I've made som custom perl scripts, so I can add and remove sites through the browser interface, so you can't even tell this is running Linux.

Linux is a pain to get started if you don't have any resources to goto for help other than Anandtech, but it's possible to get it all working correctly with Windows. It just takes some patience.

I setup a freebsd box and thought it was cool.. Just wanted some insight on Lindows is all.. Man people and their stronghold on certain companies..

this is a dell system..and it is slow as hell

The idea of it sounds appealing, but I have heard it is pretty flimsy and buggy. Also Micheal Robertson is associated with it. That guy seems kinda sleazy to me.
