My father in law wants to be able to monitor his stores remotely using IP/Network cameras or a video router that would work with his existing cameras. I've tried a few different products but so far they've been buggy or really poor quality.

We do at my job. I forget the camera and the software we use. I'll update this later.

Did they work well? Good quality?

Pretty well, we had about 6 of the 206 and a few 210. They are fairly pricey though. I can't remember the software we used to monitor them

The Axis cameras are great. Pricey, though. We pay like $600 or $800 for the 211s! We also have the CameraStation software, which is also pretty nice. And also pretty expensive.

They also support power over ethernet which is very convenient.

The DLink cameras are pretty cheap, and the hardware is actually surprisingly decent. The software, though(at least as of last summer, when I set up a bunch of them, and the surveillance backend hardware) is unbelievably horrible. It looks like something that would be bundled with a cheap consumer scanner, and works about half as well.

If you just want to use the onboard web server in the camera to manually check up from time to time(or send pictures to some network location based on motion events) they aren't bad, at least for the money; but if you want a serious tape-to-server setup Run Screaming As Fast and Far As Possible.

We have IP cameras at work. Just installed them a month or two ago. I don't know anything about them as far as brand or anything or what software they use as I only saw it when I was helping them get everything installed.

Could find out if you want but it's probably pretty damn expensive since the company likes to overpay for everything.

I use dcs900w wireless from dlink and they work perfect. Around $100. I monitor a dog kennel 24/7 and the cams are 100% reliable. A fixed shot, no motor, but I use 4 of these cams and they are the answer. The main problem I come across is with the computer i might use to monitor. it has to have java installed or activex.

ps. i make a simple webpage with diff cam views. I can view a page of two cams, or the full 4. A sharp color picture.

Thanks for the info guys. I may try the DLink camera, the 53xx series or 6xxx series look pretty cool but the reports are that the software is terrible.
