I'm currently on verizon but thinking of switching to google fi. Curious if anyone is using google fi and if so any comments.

My dilemma is that only a few phones work with google fi and given my requirement for an sd slot that basically means one of the lg phones (v35 or v40). I currently have a note 4 that is just about 4 years old so upgrading isn't a big deal but if I didn't switch to google fi i'm not sure i'd get an lg phone. So just want to check if google fi works reasonably well (my motivation for google fi is slightly less expensive and excellent overseas usage built into the plan).

The service itself has been great for me. I haven't had much problems with coverage and I always seem to get decent speeds. The overseas service really is nice, I used it in Japan/South Korea and it instantly switched when we landed and I got decent service over there. Customer support has been great when I've had to deal with them, but that really hasn't been that often. It can be really cheap if you manage your data usage well, most of my use is from streaming music and once I downloaded my most listened to music I can keep my bill down to like $30-$40 a month.

The worst thing about it is the phone restrictions, I'm using a Pixel 2 which for the most part is a great phone but yeah the lack of sd card and headphone jack are starting to annoy me more and more.

I'm on fi with a Nexus 6p. I don't use a lot of data unless I'm on wifi so my bill is the same as Vash. I like it for the most part. My GF is also on fi and she has had far less luck on it. She went from the Nexus 5x to a pixel 2. Once she went to her Pixel 2 she has been much happier with service.

If you don't use a lot of data and you like the phones they offer, fi is great. Very limited service as of right now.

I'm on Fi, i like it. Switched from Verizon. Where I live though, signal spy is a must to force use of tmobile towers. Sprint is ass.

Also, i took advantage of the deal on the LG phones. Switched to the G7 from the Moto X4; liked both phones more than i expected .

Hows the battery life on the G7 ? That is my biggest concern as I tend to use gps when i travel and from reports the phone is nearly 1/2 the battery life of the note 9 (my current phone while 4 years old has pretty decent battery life - the battery is replace able for $10; though the new battery is not as good as the original oem when it was new).

I don't know, only on day 2 and my use isn't quite real world. I'll say that i played with it almost constantly yesterday while at work and had about 29% left when I got in bed. I'll post a screenshot at the end of today and see what i have.

For my use, it's fine. Better than the Moto X4, gets me through work and the evening, can modify my use if I know i can't charge overnight for some reason. Today isn't the best day to stress the phone, have some long meetings to get through where i won't get to mess with it that much. So far I really like it, but it's a 400 dollar phone for me.

I just picked up the V35 for the same reason. $699 and the $150 service credit effectively made the phone $549.

The V40 should be hitting fi somewhat soon and they are clearing inventory.

I've been with Project Fi since the early days of the Beta, and I have no issues recommending it now. With the early days, with only T-Mobile and Sprint, and only the Nexus 5X / 6P, it was rougher. The phones were not as good as other network's options, and there were a number of places where coverage would just drop out.

Nowadays, it's great. I use a Pixel 2 XL, which would have been my choice of phone regardless of Network, and the addition of U.S. Cellular has really filled out some of the coverage areas. If you're an international traveler, it's fantastic. Data in the vast majority of places you go.

If you go for it, find a friend who's already on it to give you an invite. You both get $20 in Service Credit after 30 days.

G7 battery life is great for my use; hard to say for yours. I made it to bed with around 15% with relatively heavy use (some GPS, lots of screen on time for me anyway, no games though). I guess it's consistent with reviews. I just bought a wireless charger for my desk at work, throw it in there for a bit and am good to go. My Moto X4 wouldn't have made it without time on a charger.

Fi is great though, like the other dude said find a friend to get 20 credit. Or be his friend (or mine) and get a referral.

Do you use the stock lg launcher or did you install a third party. I really don't know a lot about the g7 - other than it has the super bright lcd and is a bit smaller than my note 4. The reviews all indicate lg launcher is questionable and lg phones have the worse battery life of all phones. However, at the current price point it might not be a bad stop gap until 5g is prevalent in a couple of years. My thought is i would wait till black friday/cyber monday and decide that period (also there might be a bigger special ...)

I didn't mind the LG launcher but went ahead and installed a 3rd party one (rootless pixel launcher) so I could get all the Google stuff I was used to having on my Moto X4. Honestly, I'd rather have more of a pure Android phone. But I do like the LG way more than I thought I would. Doesn't feel like I'm settling. The screen is awesome, I like that it's tall and thin, and there is some LG stuff that's great (like the DAC and haptic feedback).
