anyone use DLink wireless network card DWL-500 in Ad-Hoc Mode ?

if only 2 to 3 desktop network enviroment, is access point really necessory since it support ad-hoc mode.

As long as all 3 PC's are in the same wireless cell then you dont really need an AP. If you moved on Client PC out of the range of one of the others, then yes, you would need an Access Point.
