Anyone use Angieslist.com?

I need a few things done to the house that are outside the scope of my ability and was wondering if the site is actually worth it. I got a 40% coupon in my email but if no one belongs to the site then its not worth joining.

Just looking for honest opinions from real users.

My Dad bought me a subscription for Xmas. I've used it once to find ratings for area house cleaners. The service did end up being great.

I guess the idea is that since only paying users can subscribe and rate, it should help in keeping the honesty of the reviews (I think there is also an approval process). I'd think that since one pays for the service, most would also actually participate in the review process; helping to counter the natural tendency for online reviews to weigh towards the negative.

I haven't used it enough to really have a well-rounded experience. But since I have the service, it'll be the first place I look when I get some flooring installed later this year.

Yelp works just as well and its free.

I used to have an Angie's List subscription and bought additional subscriptions in two others areas where family lived.

You need to call up your LOCAL Angie's List chapter and ask some questions about how many members that local chapter has and how active those members are in terms of posting reviews.

Angie's List can represent a good deal, or a total ripoff, depending upon how many members your local chapter has and how active those members are in terms of posting honest reviews of contractors they have used.

I use it and won't hire a contractor who doesn't have a profile on Angie's List. In addition to being great for finding contractors, they pass on a lot of good deals to their subscribers.

My cuz used angieslist to find a house painter and is very satisfied so far.

Yelp works just as well and its free.

I signed up for Angieslist on accident (I thought it was something different) and it took me forever to get them to stop billing me.
