Anyone use an fm transmitter with their ipod/mp3 player?

which one do you recommend?

edit: i'm looking for one that doesn't use battery, but instead can be plugged in the car charger

i use one, forget what brand though. i've gone through 2 of them and on my 3rd now because the wires kept breaking where they connect to the unit.

i think it might be belkin tunecast 2 or something like that.

I still have an iTrip... it was supposed to be the best of the best. But I found reception with it pretty much sucked, and I found that I got much better sound quality just using a decent tape adapter.

I don't like my iTrip's interface, I say get one that lets you directly select the frequency.

my friend uses the belkin one i believe.. he says it's just alright.. not that great

if there isn't a belkin one, then i'm not sure what brand he has

Yeah I've heard of people having a lot of probs. I think Belkin makes something that lets u mess around with the frequency.

I have the original belkin one. It sucks...it was only like $9 at WalMart though, so it was good enough for the short period I needed it for.

I tried one (I believe it was the one from Belkin) and it sucked. I bought an adapter for my pioneer head unit to hook it up to my ipod and it works beautifully

I use the Monster one for my Ipod Nano, works great, much better than the Belkin unit I had used with a prior mp3 player

I've only used iTrip but it's my understanding that given the bandwidth limits on FM transmition transmiters are always going to sound like crap.

I use the Creative one. It's ok, but there are a couple of issues with it:

1. FM band in this area is heavily populated, so I get static a lot
2. The interface the unit itself uses is utterly retarded in that it can't seem to save station presets.

They all suck immensely. I really would rather listen to a goat singing than anything over an fm transmitter. Maybe I've just had bad luck with them, surely everyone can't be experiencing the same thing I did with a couple of models.

If you can get a tape adapter, it will be approximately four hundred times better.

Before I got a tape adapter for my car or whenever I drive my mom's car, I use a Belkin TuneCast 2. It is alright, sometimes it would get staticy if I was driving through an area with high interference on that channel, but all in all, it was fine for in car listening.

Depends where you are. I have a Belkin one and it works great around here (Vancouver), but in some larger US cities I get a lot of interference.

If your headunit supports even frequency use the even frequency to transmit instead of the odd frequency because most FM stations broadcast in odd frequency.

Do your level best to get some sort of direct auxiliary connection between your iPod and your radio.

Barring that, the iTrip has worked well for me, funky interface notwithstanding.
