Anyone use an electric razor?

I got a Norelco electric razor to shave my pathetic excuse for facial hair as a Christmas present. It's the one that dispenses lotion of some gunk. I've been using it since I got it and I still get red bumps on my neck. It looks like I tried to hang myself. Should this keep happening?

Right. The manual says not to press hard cause skin can get caught up in the spinning blades. So I'll pass on that suggestion.

I would ultimately recommend it, but it takes a while to get used to. The manual says up to 3 weeks. Even if your face get irritated, keep at it. I'd suggest shaving when you get home from work instead of in the morning so you won't show up with a rash where hair should be.
 
Tried using a electric razor once, but just didn't feel like i was getting a "clean" shave. Gillette Mach 3 Razor for the past 5yrs now.
 
i found it gives you a closer shave, but you pay the price for it. it irratated my skin really bad and was really annoying for a day or so. my trusty mach 3 does the job just fine, without the pain. just my 2 cents

I use one but only if I need to shave a couple days growth, and only on my cheeks / moustache area. I can't use it on my chin or I get the crazy rash-burns that stick around for half a day or so. So I'm with ya buddy.

It's handy for the clipper thing that flips up on the back too though.
 
Sounds like your skin is too sensitive. My Norelco tells you to stick with it for a month I think to see if it gets any better. For the best shaves though, you gotta use a non electric razor.
 
I don't use my noirelci on my neck. I use the little pop out piece thing on my neck and the normal part of the razor everywhere else.
 
You will eventually learn how to shave with it. I know that with mine that I can only shave certain spots at certain angles...
 
I get red rashes under my chin using electric razor... so I use electric on everything but there. I use a normal safety razor for it... with just water (I don't have much facial hair, so it doesn't hurt or anything).
 
I had a Norelco and I used it for about a year. I just didn't like the feel it left me with. Now I use a Mach3 for my shaving but I do use the sideburn trimmer thingy on the electric shaver to touch up my sideburns.
 
I've never used a lotion-dispensing one or a wet/dry one for that matter. But with the regular shavers, I find that a moist face isn't good, it causes sticky skin that gets burned. I like to take a shower and then go eat breakfast, give my skin some time to dry out.

Pushing down too hard is no good, going over the same spot 20 times isn't either. Not that I have much of a choice, but I like to shave every day to keep the hairs short, so they can't get long enough to lay down and get much more difficult to remove with a few passes.

Also learn the art of stretching the skin with your free hand to make it more taut and less likely to get snagged by blades, and to get it away from the contours of the throat and neck where it's harder to shave without getting burned. Anything you can pull up above the jawline will give you a flatter surface to shave on, and that has always worked better for me. Also stretch the skin of the throat and adams apple off to the side. The point about learning what spots and what angles are troublesome is very true, and you can stretch skin away from those spots to try to avoid it.
 
I switched to a Braun dual foil Synchro thingamabob and it's the best shave I've gotten. Not the closest, but the best. I have yet to get any rashes and I went straight from a Gillette Sensor II to the Braun. I've tried the three head shavers from Remmington and Norelco and both gave me throat rash. Not the foil based one. I admit my "beard" isn't much to behold, but i really like the ease and quickness of shaving now with my Braun.

BTW, this is what I have. I bought mine from WalMart for $50.
