I've been adding technical articles to my website and my bandwidth has really shot up, even though I've cut down on the images. They're just simple things like how to use Norton Ghost or upgrade a Mac Mini, but I've been getting a lot of good feedback and traffic, which has resulted in me having to shell out about $300 year for an upgraded server. This is just a personal hobby site I'm running. I wanted to keep it fairly clean in terms of design and styling, so I decided to try out Google's AdSense, which lets you do colormatching and choose the sizes and placement on your webpage. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I don't want people to be confused about what to click on (at least for the more non-technical portion of my visitors), but I would like to have it at least cover the costs of running the site. Here's the website:
http://www.wiredbynature.org/
I'm getting roughly 3,000 hits a month or so now, not a lot compared to most sites but a big boost from my previous 500 - 1,000. The article layout is fairly simple, a title and the text with the Google ad in between. Here are two variations I've tried:
http://macbook.wiredby.com
http://restore.wiredby.com
Anyway, is it worth using AdSense? I don't want to clutter up my site, but it'd be nice to have incoming revenue to cover that $300/year server bill.
