Anyone use a search engine optimization or Web indexing services

My friend owns a small business and paid to have a new Web site created. She installed META tags and says she submitted the site for indexing by Google and Yahoo and whereever.

She very determined to pay one of these search engine optimization sites to help her increase her ranking. Anyone used one of these things? I'm guessing it's a waste of money and suggested she look at Google AdWords or something like that, but she's pretty determined to buy into a service.

The company that I work for used to use web position gold, but we recently hired a SEO to our Delhi Office, and we moved from page 10+ to the top of page 1 on all of our search terms, without purchasing additional services. I'm not entirely sure what he did besides meta tags, but you might look into hiring someone with experience.

It depends how much she wants to spend and how good of a person/company she finds. Sometimes you can pour tens of thousands and see no results and at the same time maybe spend a little less but find very good results. I know this is vague, but basically I'd recommend meeting whoever will be doing this and talking to them about it in detail.
