Anyone use a mouse with your PS3 or XBox?

I just ordered a Fragnstein for my PS3. REALLY looking forward to it, despite the extreme price tag.

Does anyone else use a similar product?

Where did you order the Fragnstein from? I haven't been able to find one in stock anywhere.

I use an XIM2 on the 360 and it's probably the most responsive kb/m adapter i've used on any console thus far. It hooks up to your PC through a specially programmed chip soldered into the 360 controller, and allows you to use any kb/m that you have hooked up to your PC. http://www.xim360.com

The original XIM will actually work on the PS3 (even though it was originally designed for the 360), but i'm not sure how it would compare to a Fragnstein. I'd be interested in your impressions of the Fragnstein once you get it in.

Just a warning.. this thread is likely going to turn into a bunch of people claiming that using a kb/m on a console is "cheating". So just a heads up.. lol

haha. I couldn't care less. I have been a PC gamer my entire live, PS3 is the first console I have owned.

You can take my mouse out of my cold, dead fingers.

Oh, and I got it on ebay for $100.

Price of the good methods for m/k on 360 are too high for my liking so I have settled for FPS Freek analog stick length-increasing things. They increase the length of the analog stick along with the length of the arc travelled by the end of the analog for the same angle. Lets me set high sensitivity in game while maintaining control so I can aim quickly.

Have you considered playing basketball against midgets or competing in the special olympics? You'd get the same satisfaction that you'd get out of pwning people who are all using inferior controls. ;)

I wouldn't consider a kb/m setup superior to a controller, it's simply a different way of controlling the game. I get owned by controller users all the time while using my XIM2. It all depends on what you're comfortable with IMO.

Are you serious? I'm pro-controller for the console but even then can recognize the superiority of a kb/m setup over a controller in FPS's.

I'll admit that a KB/m setup or similar is superior. However, its not quite the difference of midgets vs normal people in basketball.

Furthermore, no one is stopping anyone else from buying a similar setup for their console.

Finally, I consider myself handicapped. I am so far behind kids who grew up with controllers, I will never be in their league.

Anyone who beats me in FPS on Live gets bad feedback. I hope the ban and carpal tunnel is worth it.

I use a fragfx on my PS3. It is better than using the controller, but not anything close to using a kb/m. Console games are weird when it comes to aiming, it feels like there is no gravity sometimes, so when you move the mouse right and stop, it doesn't fully stop, it goes a little past and kinda floats back.

Maybe it is different with this fragnstein or whatever.

If they would release something decent enough, I would love kb/m on my Xbox360. I just prefer it over the controller.

Why don't you just play on PC then? Why bother getting a console if you're just going to use a keyboard and mouse with it?

Yeah I got those too. Took me a while to get used to it and for a long time I just gave up and stuck to the default sensitivity without them. Once I figured out that the point is to make high sensitivity more manageable, I started doing better. I'm not sure if I'm really better with them but I am able to use a higher sensitivity without doing any worse, so I guess they help.

Are you serious? I'm pro-controller for the console but even then can recognize the superiority of a kb/m setup over a controller in FPS's.

No kidding. It's a huge advantage. I hope kb/m adapters remain difficult to use and expensive for a long time, otherwise they'll fracture the console gaming community and basically require you to use them if you want to stand a chance.

If you love your mouse control so much, go over to the PC gaming forum. And yes, it is cheating.

There are a bunch of console exclusive FPS titles that are absolutely unplayable for me without a kb/m. Any Halo game, Battlefield bad company (the 1st one), The Darkness, Condemned 2, to name a few. I play games to have fun, not to suffer through using a control system i'm not comfortable with.

If you love your mouse control so much, go over to the PC gaming forum. And yes, it is cheating.

How is using a kb/m adapter any different than using the FPS Freek thumbstick extender that you use? They're both meant to cater to a players personal preference, nothing more, nothing less. Like i've said before, there are controller users who can quite literally wipe the floor with me and my XIM360 setup. If I had the time to invest in getting used to a controller for FPS games I could probably be up there with them, but since I don't I choose to use what i'm comfortable with.

wow you guys seriously get this pissy about someone using a mouse and keyboard? it's like saying someone's cheating at madden 10 for the PC if they use a controller. it's ridiculous to think that. yyou use whatever's most comfortable to you and helps you enjoy the game more. :/

I personally never thought about using my m/kb with my ps3, because I don;t have many titles and no FPS games. I use my pc for that. but it might not be a bad idea to do so now that I know it's possible.

I was probably too harsh in that post. I don't really like the idea of unbalancing the playing field, but if you're not completely dominating everyone with it I guess it's not that big a deal. I'd feel a lot worse about it if you were going 25-0 and getting a nuke every match with it, but you're right that some people are just amazingly good with a controller and can still beat you even if you do have a kb/m.

The way I see it, controllers aren't the ideal way of controlling first person shooters, but it's okay because everyone has to use them. When everyone doesn't has to use them, it opens the door for a potential fracture in the community.

Again, the only thing I'm really opposed to is the end result of too many really good players using them. Would make it a lot less fun for people who are using the controller. But that shouldn't be a problem as long as they remain rare.

...madden 10 for the PC...

Last Madden for PC was 08 and it was so bad no one bought it. Subsequently, EA decided to stop porting it ;)

Nah man. When I occasionally play Halo 3 online I don't do amazing, maybe average at best. :)

I'd imagine that if I gave a kb/m setup to someone who's only played FPS games with a controller, they'd probably be pretty terrible at it initially. Just like me (a kb/m player for the last 10 years) who has a horrible time getting used to aiming with a thumbstick.. I recently bought Killzone 2 but don't have a kb/m adapter for the PS3 so i've been trying to get used to it using the controller. It's almost more frustrating than it's worth because I have maybe a couple hours a week that I can play games. Not really enough time to get very good at it.
