Will these leaf vacuums suck up acorns?

I have gobs of acorns that I don't want to spend the usually 30+ hours to rake that is required each fall.

yes, but most leaf vacuums have plastic impellers that will be torn up but rocks and acrons, so it's not a good idea. Try a shop vac.

The high end leaf blowers have metal impellors. Get one of those.

spending $300+ to suck up acorns probably isn't what he has in mind.

if it hast to be $300+ I'll do it...but it must work.

I just spent $288 on a lawn sweeper that doesn't work too well.

Ever had to spend HOURS raking a large yard? Worth every penny.

Stay away from Craftsman - look into the Billy Goat brand.

It was the Craftsman 42" Lawn Sweeper (8.5 to 1 wheel to brush ratio) from Sears.

I already have a family or two of those...all they do is bury the acorns and then they start sprouting the following spring.

Just use a hand held blower to blast 'em off the roof/gutters, walks, patio and driveway and into the yard. When it's time to do the leaves, the big gun will get the acorns, twigs and leaves all at once.

It's almost that time again...

Where did "the real deal" link point to?

Same as big gun, but there are others. Ask the local landscapers which ones they prefer today. Things change, and features are added and modified over time. Parker, Snapper and many more are available. Look for a good engine, pneumatic tires and general quality. The local tool rental places will carry high quality, no nonsense units too.

I haven't been able to find leaf blowers/vacuums that have metal impellors.

meh, the leaves get to live where they fall.

They're gone in 5-6 months anyway, eaten up by all the cute little microorganisms.

Ooh, here's a cool demonstration.

Things change. If something other than metal impeller does the job better, so be it! I purchased a Little Wonder back in 1983. It has an 8Hp Kohler engine and weighs a ton. I also bought a vacuum pickup accessory for it. It's a long 8" flexible tube used to suck the leaves through the impeller, and blow them through another smaller tube to a distant container. Haven't used the attachment but once since then. That would be about the only reason it would need a metal impeller. A lighter one would help with the longevity of the bearings on the engine, so that would be a plus. If the new ones can actually perform better, then maybe they're not bad after all. Again, check with the local landscapers. They'll know what holds up and what doesn't.

Leaves are not near the problem as are the bushels upon bushels of acorns...walking through the yard is like rolling on marbles.
