I am curious about incorporating Instant Messenger (just for my users) in their workstations. Anyone use this? I dont want any outside contact just a peer to peer connection within the office.

Anyone know where I can find something like this?

Thanks,

i use AIM here at work to chat and paste links to people here at work. If this doesnt sound "secure" enough for your needs Novell has a Send network message feture that come with their Clients.

depending on your network you can use on of the winpop type programs for lan messaging. If you have an exchange server, MSN IM works pretty good on a LAN. We're not fancy enough here for Lotus ;)

I use the novell "broadcast" command, but only when sitting at the novell server.

We have an exchange server, but I really do not want to go through with something like that, and ad more load to it. What I'm invisioning, is just a local isoloated Messenger service, that will show when youre on the computer and allows just text communication and nothing else.

I guess i might have to break out the visual basic and crank out my own.

Well if you have the remote admin programs for NT you can access the Sever Manager and see that way.

for inter office communications we use E-Pop from Wired Red software. Its cool, it allows even remote control of a client machine.

The only bug we have found with E-Pop is that sometimes it generates an error on some/all machines and it wont uninstall from memory. The app will seem to work you can send messages but it wont go thru until you restart the machine. The other thing is that its 20 bucks per machine to register.. its rather expensive when you can use AIM or MSN Messenger for free.. but then its got a lot more features.

We used to use AOL, but there was to much outside conversations going on so we got rid of it. Now we use Jabber, with an internal server. Works very well for our needs.

I think icq has a lan client too, like you set it up on your server and you can just use a totally internal setup.
