Anyone use a Galaxy Nexus and OS X?

I picked up a Galaxy Nexus and I can't get my MBP to see it. I've tried Keis and Android File Transfer with no luck. Any ideas?

Get an iPhone? Hehe I couldn't resist.

Connect fine to other computers?

Got one. Bought this to use while I send my iPhone back for replacement, volume button broke. I'm loving the big screen but not being able to put my music on it sucks. I've been aching for a bigger screen so thought I'd give this a shot. For the most part I really like it but this is certainly a deal killer.

It seems you're not the only one with trouble using Android File Transfer app with the Galaxy Nexus and OS X judging by this thread. It might not be ideal solution but couldn't you use Android app like AirDroid or WiFi File Explorer Pro? Or other similar apps? This kind of stuff is why I won't switch to a Mac. I remember having to find half-working paid workarounds on OS 9 while Windows had multiple free working programs.

Doesn't work. You will need ADB drivers and I don't know whether they exist for Mac. What you can do most with USB is to set the phone as camera and retrieve pictures(go to storage -> USB computer connection). Make sure to disable USB debugging if there is such option since that won't work without drivers, either.

The better option is either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. I would go with Bluetooth for tethering and Wi-Fi for browsing. You will need an app that can run HTTP/FTP/SMB, etc,. servers on the galaxy nexus. Airdroid is my go-to Wi-Fi file manager on my N4 and N7.

Edit: ponyo beat me to it.

I tried Airdroid and it does work, just horribly slow. It would take forever to transfer over my music. Not the end of the world, maybe one day apple will release a larger screen. I'm not going back to Windows.

Then maybe try connecting the phone as camera, transfer songs to the DCIM (or whatever it's called) folder, disconnect the phone, and use a file manager of the phone to cut/paste to move the songs around? I haven't tried but in theory* that sounds possible.

*Then again, we're talking about Apple here. Nothing is given. It won't surprise me one bit if Apple injects some sort of virus when it detects Android devices. XD

How do I go about setting it as a camera? I can't get it to see it at all. Drag and drop would be fine, it doesn't need to sync.

Hmmm... Must be specific to the Galaxy Nexus, since Android File Transfer works fine with my Nexus 7 and iMac, and it works fine with my RAZR HD after I install Motorola's driver. This is on a 2010 27" iMac Core i7 with 10.7.5 Lion.

Did you root the Galaxy Nexus or something? I have no experience with it but it's supposed to work with Android File Transfer.

See lopri post #5. Go into settings. Select storage. Then click on the menu button on the top right of the screen to open "usb computer connection " submenu. You should see MTP option and camera PTP option.

If MTP wasn't checked, Android File Transfer on the Mac won't work. So if that's the case, check it and retry it on your Mac.

It seems to be hit or miss with people judging by the XDA thread. I bet for some it's user error and for others it's just buggy program.

That certainly could have been more intuitive. The Android Transfer thing works fine, just had to tick MTP. Didn't even know the setting was there.

Yes you do need to make sure your USB settings are correct. And I did find once that the Nexus 7 was invisible, but after a reboot of both the iMac and Nexus 7, it worked fine. That only happened once though, and IIRC it was when I playing with the device rooted, with a ton of 3rd party apps. However, it's been fine ever since (on stock non-rooted devices).

EDIT:

I see you have solved your problem.

Glad you got it to work! Yeah, I agree that's really poor setup by Google and kind of hidden. I missed it first time too when I first switched to Galaxy Nexus. I don't know why they moved the submenu to the top right corner.
