Hi everyone: I have been looking for a card with excellent 2D and 3d. I currently use a GTSII 64 mg Creative. Has anyone used any of the 3DLabs cards for gaming, or is this simply a waste of a high end rendering card??? I notice in the descriptions on the VX1, and GVX1, that they are OpenGL optimized: i see no mention of Direct 3D anywhere.
Comments????

They aren't exactly gaming monsters. You'd be better off with a GF3.

Deeko:
I realize they aren't designed for gaming, I was curious if they would " hold their own", as well as display good 2D. I have my GForce tweaked really well right now, but I spend the majority of my time in the 2D world , and would like somthing a little crisper.

Thanks Taz: will do.

I am currently using the gvx1 and it delivers excellent 2d images. The card has excellent drivers and are extremely stable. The card comes in agp as well as pci format. It also supports FSAA in openGL mode and after talking with 3d labs there are considering extending the FSAA to Direct x as well. It is not a gaming card but for useage outside of gaming it is an superb card.

I'd say the 2D visual quality is pretty good, the 3D visual quality is fantastic. And it's a decent low end for professional level 3D rendering. Gaming perfromance is extremely poor at best though.

Any of the modern mainstream cards would easily outperform it in terms of gaming performance.

well, girlfriends birthday coming up, and I figured I'g give the Kyro II a try, and then upgrade her old 8 mg card :) The Kyro is about 95% as fast as the GTS2, and the colors seem to be much more vivid. The 2d is MUCH crisper( 1024 desktop, 85 mhz refresh).

Kyro II Update!!!!
I ahve spent about 3 evenings tweaking drivers and display panel options, and I have come to the conclusion the Kyro II does NOT like Win2K !!!!!!!! I have tried the updated Hercules drivers from their site, as well as Power VR drivers, and Unreal Tournament either locks or BSOD's partway through the game. I tried using Power strip as well, no difference. Seems the Open GL games are fine, however. I installed it the the GF's system ( Win98) runs fine. Go figure.
