Anyone us Opera?

Not sure if anyone brought this up before, but since the new update. I use IE at work and the occasional FF, but Opera is EXCEPTIONALLY fast. MUCH faster, I just can't get over it!! Blows my mind..now I have run into a few compatibility issues, but hopefully those iron out over time.

I have it, but use Firefox 99% of the time. Opera, is hard to configure
to block Ads ... otherwise, it is very nice.

I've found that Opera doesn't handle some sites very well, that firefox and IE handled perfectly fine. In fact I remember having some issue with these forums and opera....beats me if they've been remedied.

I had to stop using Opera because it prints stuff kinda screwy. Tables in particular give it a really hard time.

why the hell would you use it for torrents and irc? disable the built-in crap and you're good to go.

That was my freakin' point! I don't have to disable crap in Firefox. Last time I tried IRC links with Opera after disabling the built-in it would open a new mIRC client each time instead of just opening a new connection within the current mIRC client. A giant pile of crap in my book. Not good to go at all.

I'm trying it now. Is there a way to rearrange my toolbars? I've got a lot of wasted space - I'd like my address bar to sit up there with the "File, Edit, View, etc" bar, and my tab bar to sit right about the browsing area.

Opera 8 has insanely fast. Especially the back, its instant. Not 1 ms, instant. FF can never get that close. Unfortunetly there are just too many plugins for FF to make me use Opera full time. Though i usually have both open.

Yep, love Opera. It's very fast. The only browser that comes close is Safari.

I don't understand people that say this. I think it's your broadband and not the web browser.

LOL - we're not talking about web-speed, we're talking bout rendering speed, tab-switching, ui elements, etc.

No, it is the browser itself. Opera and Safari have two of the fastest rendering engines. Even my crappy eyes can notice the difference from, say, Firefox or Internet Exploder.

Love Opera, love the speed dial and the zoom in.
Have no use for firefox.

The Image Zoom add-in tool does this extremely well in Firefox.

Nope thats completely different than what Opera does. That zooms images. Opera's zooms the entire page, text, images, the works (expect for things like flash).

I usually bump anand's forums up to 130% for easier reading. And when I'm running down lists, like ebay's, i usually set for 180% then I can quickly scroll through and be able to read as I go.

Oh I really like the time based auto-refresh, perfect for ebay.

So you're talking about a 0.1s difference or something?

why aren't you using opera 9?

No, its night and day. Its blatantly noticible on even the fastest of processors. Especially going back through history. He's not kidding when he says instant, its INSTANT. Firefox, even with the "fastback", cant even come close.

Every now and then I try my best to give firefox another go because of an extension or two, but within a day or two, I'm back to opera, because it really is that much faster. And uses way less memory, about 50% that of FF. At at the end of the day, most of the extensions I ended up downloading were merely to make up for features that were missing in firefox that were there in opera.

I do have the occasional (1 page or so per week) issue with opera not rendering correctly, but then again, I have the same problem with FF. Thats what IE is for.

Honestly, I dont know why firefox gets all the press. Wasnt the original point of firefox to be the slim, non-bloated alternative to mozilla and IE?

opera is crazy fast, but the website rendering issues will never be fixed. it's been the bastard child of poor website rendering since it was invented 🙁

it's really too bad, it's definitely the fastest... and the least piggy for memory

Have you used it recently? I might have said the same a year or two ago, but honestly incompatible sites are so amazingly few and far between now that its a total non issue except for the rare site that refuse to believe there are browsers other than IE.

The sites I have primary issues with? Microsoft.com, MSDN, and the Vista gadget site. That shouldnt surprise anyone considering the source.

I've yet to find a page that doesnt work in opera that does work in firefox. Now that the world isnt IE only, webdevs have to worry about Safari and Firefox as well, and anything that works in those, will work in opera.

After just installing the 9.5 beta, which claims to focus on performance (as if it needed to), the fastest browser is now even faster. Unbelievable. Unless you are literally married to a firefox extension, you should give it a try.
