I have a T2050 based laptop that has a replaceable cpu module and was wondering if anyone has upgraded an HP dv9000 series laptop and had any experience on performance/cost ratio.

Is the 5 or 7 series the best bang/buck? Prices for large cache cpu's are more than a new laptop in new cases.

Is there much benefit going from Core duo to Core2 duo on a laptop? WIfe uses this laptop primarily for photoshop, graphics, photography work and surfing the web.

Replaced the old sata drive with a 7200 rpm based drive and that helped greatly. I'm contemplating the best cpu upgrade moving forward.

The hard drive upgrade was a good idea.

The higher FSB in the 7 series may prove to be beneficial in preventing bottlenecks, but I don't know if
there is a discreet advantage to using the core2duo outside of it's energy consumption saving you some
battery life.

I have a macbook pro with a 2.4ghz core2duo and it runs photoshop about the same speed as my single
core AMD 3800+ 2.5ghz desktop. I have more RAM in my desktop and a faster hard drive.

you need to look at socket for compatibility.

What model number is your cpu?

Theres 2 mobile sockets out. One is Core Duo's and the other was the C2D's.

The socket P so there called, was offered with chips like T7xxx series. Now phased out by the wolfdale cpu's.

If your on a older Mobile processor, you maybe limited to the original Socket M. IF thats the case, you cant use any of the newer processors.

Oh and ive swapped the cpu off my 8710p three times, of course you void your warrenty by doing so.

Currently i have a T9500, before that was a T7700, and i bought the lappy with a T7300.

i think its socket 478 T2250 cpu after all. I'll pop open the case and make double sure its not an older socket m (which would suck) Its a dv9 series hp which seems they pushed (with same mb) all the way up to 7200 cpus. CPUz said 478 as well.

Figure i may wait it out and uprgade to a 7200 4meg cache once the prices fall or if i find a good deal on the used/secondary markets.

if i'm not mistaken i have to use the even number 7 series sine the odd number appears to be 479.. yay.. double the price for nothin ;)
