Sorry to hear of your trouble. I remember lending advice on what was supposed to be a simple viddy upgrade not long ago -if you remember 'twasn't I who recommended Palit, let alone a 6800, so don't blame me!
I think it was shortly afterwards that I learned you had been banned but did not catch what for. Anyway, welcome back.
As for the suspected bracket misalignment, I don't doubt it and see the described connector gap but is that so unusual? They are usually recessed at least. Check out these pics, for instance.

I say it was the Antec
Cant happen rotating the card out of the slot.

the ref and data buses are extremely low amps
And all of your statements that the PSU is "adequate" are irrelevant to a failed filter cap

I don't know about AGP cards, but for PCI-E cards GamingPhreak's description is correct. If the card is not seated tight enough it'll cause black (blank) screen unless you have something more conductive between the card and the slot. Assuming it happens with AGP cards, it's still a grey area in that it could also be the case manufacturer's fault. You might want to check the exact specs for ATX and AGP form factor, and take an appropriate actioni. It still sucks what happened here. Is Palit known for either good/bad warranty?

Let me try to explain this
1. The card initially started and ran fine for ~5 hours at least
2. I initally ran several 3dmarks and at least half an hour of farcry, with no issue whatsoever.
4. It then died/caused a distaster/whatever, after several hours of idling, at 2d clocks, with nothing else in the system stressing anything (no scheduled scans etc, blank screen).
3. After the card died, there was a clear burn on the relevant fingers that supply the card with voltage from the motherboard.
4. If the card had twisted horizontally in the slot, the fingers could easily have shorted on one of the agp socket connectors.
5. Which would explain the burn on those fingers, and no visible damage elsewhere on the card.
I'm not sure if that helps, but it looks pretty
The only contact the card had with the case was the bracket being screwed to the case backplate, like i've done with all my past cards, and my present card (in the same mobo and case)...
