So basically I want to live by myself in an apartment as I cant stand roomates and their disgusting habits and obnoxiousness. Even if they move me to another place I will just find ways to hate my next roomates and I need to focus on my studying. Have any of you gotten out of your housing contracts and went to get an apartment? Im assuming im gonna have to go home and read the fine print of the contract to find out specifics next week when im home. Was there a fee involved or are you just not allowed to get out of it?

Any help would be nice and I will be going home this weekend and looking at the contract.

I'd suggest getting over it and learning how to interact with others and deal with things you don't like.

I wouldnt ask for help if I could deal with it, im beyond that point now. I dont appreciate caddy bitches talking crap about me constantly and not saying anything to my face. Im tired of them constantly disrupting my studies and watching tv and eating ice cream 24/7. I have a real degree im going for and need my focus on that not my living situation. Oh im a girl too so its not as easy as dealing with guys.

Pharm D, roomates have no degrees they are going for basically just party and be obnoxious. Oh and watching tv all day and eating ice cream forgot that part.

Get over it?

Women have so much freaking trouble with female roommates. Such a PITA. Other peoples' habits are not your problem unless they directly interfere with your ability to study.

Usually if they can find a person to take your spot (usually they have a waitlist or something) you can move out with no penalty. At least thats how my college worked. Until then make use of the 24 hour library (hope you have one) and only go home when you need to sleep and shower. Of course swapping to new roomies could turn out for the better.

hmm...well, you know the little things they all add up, especially when they do them right in front of you. We live on the third floor and our air does not work, sunlight = heat. They leave the blinds wide open and they wonder why it gets hot. So i close the blinds, the dark may not be fun, but it's better then being hot. Their hygeine habits are terrible. I don't appreciate tampons everywhere and exposed in the garbage. They leave the toilet seat cover up and that bugs me. They dry their hair in the kitchen, so there is hair all over the kitchen. They don't clean up their messes in the kitchen. They keep the tv on all day and the volume is really loud, so i can't focus and the library is only open during certain hours, so this isn't an option. Last night they felt the need to put my blender cap in the freezer, throw a pen of mine on the floor, and put my umbrella out of place, and play COUNTRY music really loud while i was trying to watch a movie. They also talk crap about my boyfriend, and he does not interfere with their lives at all. There is soo much more, but i don't feel like writing a paper right now and getting all enraged as i realize all these things as i write about them.

So basically you're blowing this out of proportion? My advice? Get over it.

I can sympathize with ya...i had a roomate who i came home to on a couple of occasions to him pissing in the sink, puking on the floor, reaked of garbage half the time, and had his skank gf and her friends over and they would use MY bed. I tried to get outta the contract but best they would do is just move me in with someone else, of course the only guys left are the ones that some other guy had a problem with. ended up finding a guy i didn't mind as much and worked out okay for the rest of the year :)

Have you tried talking to them about how you feel about the things they do?

I know that roommates can suck, especially girl roommates, and I guess my advice is to find somewhere else to study, watch movies, hang out, etc. Or you could find out about switching roommates. I've never heard of anyone being able to get out of a housing contract, but you could try.

your complaints seem completely valid, but I think you should reconsider moving into an apartment by yourself. you just got unlucky with the roomates you have, TRUST ME. that's one of the downsides of freshman year, it's a crapshoot on whether or not you get good roomates. there are plenty of respectful and quiet roomates out there, who i'm sure you'd get along great with. you mentioned that if you moved into another situation you'd just find ways to hate your new roomates, maybe the problem is with you. you can't expect to make friends if you have that kind of attitude.
