Anyone try the 4G LTE on Verizon?

I'm being inundated with emails and calls from my VZW reps about the new 4G modem. I was even invited to the Meadowlands to "experience" it!

Anyone actually using one of these huge external 4G modems yet? What sort of speed and latency are you getting from it?

Brother-in-law tried one last week and got 12mbit down in downtown LA. Granted, there are currently very few users but the hardware is definitely capable of some high speeds.

Nice. I'm not sure if it's worth the extra cost though personally. I don't do anything on my phone, with the exception of tethering, where that really matters. My 3g is sufficient as of now.

Not interested 4G on a phone... what's the point? I'm wondering how people have been getting by with the modem. Does VZW even have a 4G phone out yet?

Fear No Evil, have you tethered the phone to your computer at all? Anything to report such as latency and speed? I'd be interested in knowing how Sprint performs in that regard, though I ported all of our Sprint lines over to Verizon not too long ago.

I've tethered my epic using wireless tether and it works pretty well. The latency isn't too bad (100-250) but it isn't land line broadband low. This was with 3G however since I don't have 4G access where I live. I do hope Sprint decides to go with LTE however, and there has been rumors it can be done with just software changes. With 3G I was getting 3Mbps down and 1 up. Sorry no Verizon data since I have Sprint.

The commercials for the 4G LTE service are totally misleading... they show a kid downloading a Netflix movie at breakneck speeds, even enough the service only has a five GB cap. Two long movies in HD would be enough to blow through the entire monthly limit!

Nah, you can still keep watching Netflix. They just charge 10 dollars for every GB over the limit.

One of the huge advantages for Sprint WiMAX 4G is no data cap as of right now. When I get my 4G phone next month I`ll be streaming even more Slingbox.

This is the least sleazy VZW has ever been. They are actually charging the same rate for overage as they do for normal use. Might as well just say $10/GB and be done with it, but they know most people never use more than a few hundred MB's each month (myself included).

I'm only interested in it for work, as it would make setting up an office at new construction sites a heck a lot less complicated with regards to provisioning data circuits. $10/GB is pushing it though with high latency. Considering I can get a T1 for ~$350/month, that's only 35GB on the 4G with a much higher latency. 100+ms vs. 3ms.
