anyone try/recommend meal replacement shakes/drinks?

I'm looking to shed some lbs and thinking i'd give this a try.

I have a severely screwed up lft knee, so jogging(or even walking) is, unfortunately, out of the question. So, i'm looking for ways to reduce calories to start.

I tried a chocolate Soy powder one that you mix with any liquid. It tasted like ass and really didn't mix well with water at all. What little I could get down did fill me up though.

Don't replace meals. Eat lots of lean meat and avoid carbs, sugar, and fat. Don't kill yourself trying to avoid carbs and fat, just make sure your intakes for both are lower. If you really crave carbs, give yourself 1-2 carb days a week. Do avoid sugar like the plague.

Moderate weight lifting and cardio (3x a week for each) should be incorporated. Otherwise, you'll just lose weight and still be soft and pudgy all over.. which is probably not what you want. If you only want to lose weight so the scale shows a lower number, you can skip the weight lifting.

Edit: Nm, no cardio for you. Moderate weight lifting it is! Don't be lazy!

You say you want to reduce calories, but meal replacement shakes aren't necessarily going to help you achieve that goal. You need to actually track how many calories you eat each day using Fitday or The Daily Plate and go from there.

Well since you asked.....

Met-Rx makes very good meal replacement bars, and even ready to drink meal replacement drinks if you wish to go down that route.

otherwise, you can always mix up your own protein shakes and put fruit etc. in them to take away a meal (say breakfast). any protein powder will do really, preferrably low in fat.

I think that replacing one meal a day or so may help, although as already said it is much better to eat actual food than the replacement bars/shakes. The are called supplements for a reason. ha ha. And as technoob said, lifting will be really beneficial because even without cardio that helps burn a lot of calories and adds tone.
