does it work flawlessly? I heard that the G9 connector may not be compatible with SB Live.

Below a brief review from someone.

"The audio input connector at the back of the sub-woofer unit uses a 9-pin mini-DIN connector (which MidiLand labels it as G9). I'm not sure if its pinouts are compatible with the Creative Sound Blaster Live! Digital DIN output as I did not managed to try out this option since I only have the unit for only two days to test. However, the G9 input is meant for the provided ADS-2000 audio decoder."

Will someone like to clarify this? i am plaing to buy SB Live DE 5.1 soon. But i don't know which speaker to go for, either this or Cambridge SoundWorks DTT 3500 Digital 5.1 Surround Speaker System.

I have read the review but it was quite old(Apr 2000). I will appreciate if someone will recommend me the best combination.

Thanks.

You don't need a 5.1 sound card in order to get Dolby Digital out of the 8200's so you shouldn't worry about it. Thats the whole reason why they come with there own Dolby Digital decoder so you don't need to get your own. I am getting these speakers very soon, and I can't wait. :)

Does A3d and Eax games work great with this speaker?? My main concern is game.

Check out this comments :

One of the most important issue one should remember is that the S4 8200 is not meant for Quad audio output from audio cards. What do you mean? I thought there are 5.1 speakers and isn't that more than enough for Quad configuration? Well, let me explain. The 5.1 speaker system takes the audio that's sent to the built-in amplifier in the subwoofer directly from the ADS-2000 decoder unit via the G9 connector. There are no other type of inputs at the back of the subwoofer except the G9 connector. Although the G9 connector is exactly the same as the Digital DIN connector on the SB Live! Deluxe/Platinum series of cards, I cannot be sure if its pinouts are compatible. (We'll keep you updated in the Reviews Lab forum if we hear any news.). Anyway, if it is not compatible, there is no way to feed four channel audio output from your favourite sound cards (such as SB Live!). Even if you have other types of quad audio cards like the Xitel Storm Platinum, or the MediaForte Quad Xtreme that uses normal phone jacks, you will still feed two channels into the system. Hence, you may not be able to enjoy the rich surround effect from games that make use of EAX or A3D sound technologies - http://www.hardwarezone.com/php/pcodes/reviews.php3?_di=2&_c=9&_aid=2000-09-01+02:06:13

Just thought I'd let you guys know that I just ordered my Midiland S4 8200's today from Egghead.com. They came out to be $275.49 total with free shipping. I can't wait to get them, I'll let you guys know how good they actually perform later on in the week once they arrive.

Well if it's a G9 connector, go to radio shack and get a G9 to 6x RCA connectors. Get 3 Mini-Stereo to 2x RCA converters as well.

Then you hook the 3 mini-stereo to 2x RCA converters into the back of the Live 5.1, then you hook the 6RCAs hanging off your live 5.1 into the 6 RCAs on the 6xRCA to G9 converter, then plug the G9 into the sub. Just make sure you match up the 6 RCAs right.

Set your live for 5.1 analog mode and away you go.

This is of course only if the input on the back of the 8200 sub is a G9. I've never seen it so I don't know what it's got, but if it says it's a G9 then you should be fine.

This ignores the ADS2000 dolby digitial decoder that comes with the 8200s but you don't seem to care about dolby digital decoding, and the above way will give you true 6 channel input. So you can get games going on all speakers.

From what I hear they only accept 2 channel analog input so you can only get stereo in games. As a matter of fact some here just bought these speakers and was complaining about only getting stereo in games. I'm no expert but if games was my main concern these wouldn't be the speakers I would get.

The ADS2000 control module/AC-3 decoder only accepts AC-3 input through SPDIF or stereo input yes, but if the connector is a G9 then you can just bypass the ADS2000 and have 6 analog inputs.
