Anyone try modding their video drivers?

My main concern is could this limit battery life because they are not designed for the mobility version of the radeon and may not have the correct software in place? Anyone try it out or know anything? Very interested in trying because I've heard you can get faster numbers using the drivers from the ATI website.
 
Yup, I think most people here have done this. You get the most compatibility and better performance with reference drivers. I've had no problems with it and highly recommend it.
