Was watching some pre-game Monday Night Football tonight, and saw a commercial for Gametap.com. For $15 a month, you have access to a library of "hundreds" of games, which include quite a few from old arcades, plus what looks like quite a few from modern times as well.

Gametap.com

Anyone try it out yet? They currently have a 2-week free trial right now, I'm thinking of signing up and checking it out.

People have been playing emulated console systems on computers for years for absolutely free. I have 110gb of that stuff. You just need to have some connections or search the underground sites/FTPs/IRC, etc.. Waiting for DS emulation personally...

Most people who would enjoy this sort of thing have more ROMs than gametap.

i checked it out last night.
the newest pc game they have is splinter cell 1.
the only other popular title i saw on their was an old tomb raider. it has tons of old console games though, like sonic from the sega genesis.

most of it is crap though, not worth the $15 a month imo.

emulators aren't illegal if you have the original cartridge or whatever. even if you don't, who is really going to care or do anything to you for playing super mario 1 on your pc???

i've looked through there, Id didnt see any of the old nintendo or super nintendo games on there. And they are missing alot of the old classic windows and dos games.

I'm pretty sure that emulation on pc is not that illegal, especially if you're emulating old genesis games...

how the heck can you be "pretty sure" something is "not that illegal". either the game is now in public domain or it's not. this isn't exactly a grey area.

i really liked it, although $15 is too much for those games. If it was $5 then ok, but $15 is too much for those games.
