Anyone try Call of Juarez demo yet?

For some reason the graphics were all messed up on my computer, and the level seriously took 3 minutes to load... I guess its time to upgrade my drivers.

i tried it. graphics are gorgeous, like Oblivion. it took forever to load though and my system is pretty decent.

once i started to play though i didn't think it was all that great. you have 2 revolvers and you shoot each one separately with the left and right mouse buttons. i just couldn't get the hang of it.

The graphics are nice but yeah it takes a long time to load. My system is old too so it didn't run real fluid at 1024 (lowest res?) with graphics on low.

I agree about the gameplay though... I think it's hard to get used to those two revolvers. Especially since it wouldn't bind the second revolver to the mouse button I wanted to (didn't recognize it) so it was awkward.

You pretty much need two at a time too since you only get six shots in a gun and have to reload a lot.

The concentration thing is kinda cool but again awkward to get used to, at least for me.

I gave up cause after it auto-saved I died, then I tried to reload at the auto-save and it went all the way back to the beginning. I might give it another go later. My impression so far is 5/10.

i was kind of disappointed because i loved Gun and I really like the old west stuff so i thought this game would be cool but so far its just meh.

the box-stacking to get to ladders and staircases is poorly implemented and more annoying than anything. carbon copy of source, but not executed nearly as well.

yeah, and it takes about 10 minutes to load the level.

I forgot about that. It was kind of annoying... it was difficult to get the boxes right, and when you pick up one it covers the whole screen and you can't see anything.

The HQ Textures are nice for a change. They need to lower the load carrying point of view . I remember carrying the saddle out of the farmhouse banging into everything. the bullet time is fun along with the quickdraw. It shows some promise if they can fine tune some gameplay elements....

Fun couple of levels. I don't know if I like that concentration mode, but I do like the rapid fire, one-handed firing mode. I really like how they made the world. No popup scenery or EVERYTHING obscured by fog and haze; I can't stand that! I might buy this one.

I downloaded the demo but the file was corrupted. Don't really feel like downloading again, at least not for a bit.

Why? Because it's so much work? You should check it out.

I thought it was pretty cool. Carrying the boxes or anything seems to be really annoying. The graphics are amazing. My only gripe is I wish they did more design on the weapons, they look really bland.

Here are my thoughts from another forum:

ell I just played a bit of the demo and here are my thoughts.

First off, this game is way better than Gun. Although its hard to compare the two anyway (besides the fact that they are both western shooters).

I have realized that I do need a better computer. I'll be upgrading some time this fall..but this game definitley taxed my aging AthlonXP/9700Pro rig.

The graphics aren't bad at all, and I am sure they look even better with more options, AA, higher resolution (I tried running 1280x1024, but it was too slow on my comp).

Anyways...I enjoyed the game. I liked how you could interact with the environment (of course that isn't a new idea or anything) and the guns/shotting felt somewhat realistic (minus the Max Payne-esque concentration mode).

I am really looking forward to this release now. Nothing like shooting a criminal in the face with a six-shooter.

Edit: Just so you guys know, this game is only 80% finished. I wouldn't judge it entirely, yet. I agree about the loading times being long, but anyone who thinks Gun is better has brain damage. Gun is a joke.

Gun was awsome! It had it's problems but it was awsome anyway. Especially if you bought it for only 20 bucks.

I'm DLing the demo now. I was looking forward to this game a lot. Hope I'm not disappointed.

I thoroughly enjoyed Gun but didn't spend much time with Call of Juarez.
Gun was extremely fun, something most games are lacking these days.

I just found Gun to be very...rough. I couldn't take it seriously...you know? I am all for having fun, I couldn't even do that with Gun.

Still though, Call of Juarez is certainly not finished/polished, and final judgement should wait until it is released.

Ouch, tried playing this on MAX settings 1600x1200 textures at 2048 everything on its highest settings shadows ect...SM3 with no AA

Did not see anything above 25fps, lowest I saw was 7 while in the forrest.

I hope this game runs better once it's finished.

Beautiful game to look at BTW 🙂

Just wish it didn't bring my 7950GX2 to its knees screaming!

I played some of the first level and I think the game rocks. The graphics are awsome. The voice acting is awsome. Although there were many bugs like the sound not working properly with OpenAL, the really long loading times. This game catches my attention. Just hope to withstand the loading times later when I try to play the game again.

Hah...well, you did have the settings extremely high, on an unoptimized, yet to be released, game. I don't see how it won't run better once its finished.

I agree with the above poster, though. I think the voice acting is great.

I'vw got to put my .02 in here.... I just finished the game and this is, by far, the best thought out game I have ever played. I thoroughly enjoyed this game from start to finish.
I thought the graphics were fantastic, the voice overs good, and the story line was much better than I have ever seen in a game before. The outdoor scenes did bring my system down to its knees in more than one occasion but, still, this game is a lot more entertaining than Oblivion.
I would upgrade my system to play more games like this one.... I wouldn't waste my time with the other stuff out these days.
