Anyone try a pinhole lens with a dSLR?

Before I ruin a perfectly good body cap I thought I'd ask about folk's experiences with pinholes and dSLRs.

They're not going to be very exciting. Sure, the image has super DOF, but diffraction really makes the image unsharp. If you're going for super DOF you should look into focus stacking.

Just use a piece of aluminum foil. No need to waste a cap.

Seriously, I don't get why people use ridiculous apertures like f/22 on APS-C cameras when f/16 and above blurs the whole image from diffraction.

Nahhhh, f/22 results in usable images on an aps-c camera. Not stuff you'd wanna print out at 18x24 but meh. F/16 is fine to use if you need too as well. The whole diffraction thing is rather overblown imho. Yes you do lose some sharpness the more you go over f/11. However don't let that stop you from using f/16 or f/22 if you need too.

And a pinhole lens is like f/200 lol, really nutty stuff, one big blurry image

Absolutely It's just really not that interesting which is why you don't hear about it more. Googling dslr pinhole though youll get tons of hits, it's super easy to do with a lens cape, some aluminum foil, and a pin

Diffraction is dependent on the pixel size! So watch out!
