I'm thinking of picking one up - any suggestions? I'm already doing some light cardio and weightlifting - will piltates speed my weightloss up at all?

i don't think it will speed up weightloss. do you mean fat loss?

iirc, pilates strengthens the centering muscles primarily which i believe means all the muscles in and around the stomach. i took a class at our gym and found it quite difficult even with a lot of cardio and weight training already in my regimen. we did exercises i'd never done before and all of them were very difficult but surprisingly low impact and without weights. i'd say it's really like another weight training.

the only thing that will really speed up weight loss is more cardio, imo.

I'm going to be taking a 6-course "Intro To Pilates" thingy at a local Yoga center. I'd be happy to post my impressions once I've been a few times.

LOL, this one time I was lookin' for ways to firm up my glutes, and I found a session called "Butt Pilates 101". I drove downtown to check it out, and quickly realized that the newspaper had made a typo...there was an "R" in the session title, not an "L"!!! :Q

Thanks for all the replies! I think I'll join netflix and get a few videos to try before buying.. I'd love to tone up a bit and I guess it couldn't hurt
