Anyone tried to shortchange you before?

I went to Jack In The Box tonight and was supposed to get back $14 in change, but only got back $9. I think he was trying to shortchange me instead of just a mistake. He gave me my change then left the window and when he came back with my drink I asked him for $5 and explained. He just wanted to see the cash I had in my hand, then immediately got $5 out of the register without counting it. I could have easily put $5 in my pocket and did the same thing. Or he knew I only got $9 back. :|

Or, it could be an honest mistake, and he would rather take the chance of having his manager ask him why his drawer was $5 low later that night rather than have to deal with the potential BS of a customer getting irate because he wouldn't give out money without a good reason. No, there is no good option to take. He can't accuse you of stealing, the best that he can do is ask to see the money he gave you. What is he going to do, strip search you to see if you hid $5 somewhere?

This guy is making <$8/hour at 11:30 pm at night, he doesn't want sh!t from his manager. I could see it as a simple mistake if he had not left the sight of the cash from the window.

Obviously, Ill never know if it was a simple mistake or he was really trying to steal. Regardless, I will stop going to that particular JITB.
