Anyone tried to recompile Eccp-109 client?

I remember someone said he got a 5% speedup after recompiled Eccp-109 source with GCC and the right switches. Does anyone try M$ VC++ 6.0? Will that get even more speedup?

Optomization wise?
GCC is tops 😉
Codewarrior follows
and MS VC6 is at the bottom by a good margin.

As far as IDE's are concerned, im partial to CodeWarrior then Visual C++, and well there are so many different visual front ends for gcc ( including Codewarrior ) I wont even get into that.

I'm the one who posted the first thread. But now I'm not so sure it was the recompiling that did it. As I've used both command line clients more, I've found that the speed varies every time I start the client. Normally it does either 135000 points per second or 143000 on my PII/400. It never does anything in between. And last night I got it to do 150000 PPS! Weird, but sometimes nice. 🙂

I had understood from the Gamma Flux programmer variously known as Steve, Osiris, or otlg22 that Linux compilers were not as good at optimizing as Windows ones. Hence I figured gcc must be bad.
