Anyone tried Picasa?

Just downloaded it to try and organize my pictures somewhat, and it seems like a robust little program. I especially like the timeline thing; doesn't work for my pics, but if that was an actual OS "desktop" (Albeit with clearer pictures), that'd be pretty sweet, imho.

Can anyone convince me that Picasa does not have any kind of malware behaviour (e.g. quietly connecting to the internet with the pretense of giving some anonymous BS feedback to Google)? Also, I heard that it auto-scans the entire system for images whereas I just want it to catalogue only the folders that I want.

Tools > Folder Manager. This allows you to scan only the folders you want it to scan. This option was also available in the previous version.

Outstanding little program. All the necessary controls that should be present in an image browser are there and very convenient. I'm impressed! This will definitely be my tool of choice for browsing my photos. Best of all, it supports RAW formats! Being a photographer, it'll help a lot, not having to use my RAW conversion software to browse my images (or spend the time extracting the embedded JPEG).

It doesn't, ACDsee is far superior in terms of speed and image quality.

Picasa is just fun and a toy and FREE.

I haven't used Picasa that much yet, but I still use ACDSee 3.0. Still incredibly fast.

Why the hell would we want to convince you of that, and since when is that our job? Read the damn info on their website. Google tends to be pretty straightforward, and they'd catch hell from end users if they put spyware on the install. THey have a reputation to protect.
