My friend is trying to partition his hd using partion magic. But when he set eveything up e.g. how big we want the C: how big for the D: then it says it needs to reboot to DOS to do some changes. My question is that WinME doesn't have DOS anymore. Will it still work? He is afraid to mess up his computer.

When I tried running PM 5.01 in WinME, it gave me all sorts of GPFs and whatnot, so I decided to do all my partioning before installing WinME.

A workaround for this has been posted in the forums. Do a search and you should find it.

I used the diskette version of PM 5 and had no problems. I combined two partitions into one and it worked as advertised...via the diskettes...

PM 5 is NOT compatible with ME. I got this note last night from PQ:

"Currently, PartitionMagic does not support WindowsME, including the latest version, 5.01. PowerQuest is developing a new version of the product, according to http://www.powerquest.com/windowsmillennium.html, but I do not have any specifics as to a release date, or other features in the program. Registered users of the product should receive an Email notification if/when a new version is available. Also, for the latest updates, please refer to our press releases at www.powerquest.com."

The work-around is to do it with the bootable PM5 DOS disks that it created when you were in 98SE. Otherwise . . . wait.

Well well. It happens that i just reformatted my Harddisk due to something undeletable in my recycle bin.

I couldn't format C: at first though. Cause i had 3Gig of data important to my work and none of my other partitions were big enough. So i tried Partition Magic 4.0. To my horror, it couldn't even install.

Then i tried PartitionMagic 5.0. The dreaded program incompatibility window poped up again. I installed it nevertheless and started up the program, did all my changes to the partitions and rebooted. No effect at all was there was no dos available. So i rebooted from my Windows ME CD and started the batch file that was created in the PQMagic directory.

No problems since. Wasted 10minutes of my time though for this diversion.
