Anyone Tried 'Operation Project X' - The XBOX Attack ???

You can find info about it here. Looks like RC5 but useful.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it yet / is using it? Opinions?

Hmm.. has the Neo project risen from the ashes yet again?

Legal issues are up to the individual participant, not the project.

Must be a CYA thing - anyway, here's one individual who ain't gonna be messing with Microsoft or their XBox. 😉

I personally do support the idea of the project....... I mean, you wouldn't like it if you just bought a computer but there was a locked option in the BIOS that unlocked its full potential and nobody told you the key.

I understand MS's position, they make money from licensing the use of the platform and hence profit from the game makers even though MS's contribution to the title could be sod-all...... but there is nothing to stop one finding that a bit gay.

Anyway, this report should help clarify things.

Hmmm, let's see, how much money does MS make a day? Even the Neo people feel it's fine what they are doing, small peanuts for MS to bring lawsuits against them anyway and bury them in legal fees.

First impression if they wanted to, it seems that MS would probably invoke the DCMA to try and stop it, since that seems to be the most effective attack these days.

We've discussed this type of thing before, and there is no way I am going to participate. It's one thing to use DC to crack an encryption key that has no real world value, it's quite another to go after one that allows bypassing security features of a corporate product.

My feelings on it are, you bought a console, you got a console, not a PC, you want to run an OS on it, buy a PC... I think MS would be in their rights to pursue legal action.

I should clarify some, I think that hardware mods are ok, you did buy the hardware, but I dont think you should be allowed to break their security key, that suddenly lets anyone run anything on the xbox, you could open them up to virii and everything else.

I personally wouldn't crack this project because the group that runs it has proven that they are unreliable and have no real regard for the people who crunch their project. Take a look at the way they handled their RC5-72 project. It was a joke.

yes, i agree.
and i also feel that a project like this will bring bad PR to DC in general. it can be difficult enough to "sell" corporate management on DC, then they read about things like this and it really turns them off to legitimate DC projects

It's a game console. It's not an MS conspiracy for world domination. Is anyone trying to run whatever on a PS/2, Game Cube, or any other console???
