I'm thinking of giving it a shot, so looking for opinion on anyone who's tried it. Looks like they're turning on 4G in the NYC area on Nov 1st. I spoke to one of their representatives at BB and he said he can give me the 1st 3 months for $35 (on the go 4G/3G plan).

Here's their site: http://www.clear.com

I use Clear(wire) for internet at home (Seattle, WA). Works fine for me and is cheaper and more convenient than Comcast. My friend had it and couldn't get a strong enough signal on Queen Anne (also Seattle) to make it work, so she dumped it for Comcast.

Yes, I have it. 4G seems to have trouble penetrating my office building because of the metallic window tint, so connecting takes a while and it drops once or twice a day. Other than that it works well.

I've used it in the form of Sprint's 4G service. In-building coverage was pretty meh.

I've not been able to get a signal inside my apartment or office and both are in "great" signal strength regions according to their coverage map. Step outside and it works great.

Mine's in a window sill facing West. If I move it out of that spot, 5 bars becomes 2 bars real quick. The service is definitely finicky without some sort of line-of-sight, it seems, as my friend that had issues had the modem in an east-facing window that apparently didn't have sight of a transmitting tower anywhere on that side of the building.

I understand latency isn't great if you're planning on gaming over clear.

I've received as low as 135ms pings tethered to my phone. I haven't actually tried to play anything though. I wouldn't think a wireless connection like that would be conducive to gaming as I imagine packetloss must be pretty bad but that's pretty impressive if it works with those games tdawg mentioned.

Personally, I'm having no issues with Halo:Reach or Medal of Honor multiplayer over Clear internet.

Didn't say it won't work. Just that ping isn't great. You'll always be at a disadvantage vs someone with a wired connection.

so when you do get a good signal, what is the average max download/upload speeds? i normally get about 75KB/sec down and 20KB/sec up on my 3g sprint connection....
