Anyone tried Chromebook with Linux?

I found a really good Chromebook, and wondering if anyone has wiped the drive and used Linux on it? I know you have to disassemble it to unscrew a BIOS write protect screw. There are also Chromebook specific Linux OSes.

If you are going down that route you will probably want to install GalliumOS

If you only want to use a couple of Linux apps maybe crouton or crostini will be of more interest, both of these let you keep ChromeOS.

Crouton runs linux using chroot so you get a fuller linux desktop
Crostini runs the linux apps in a container

My plan has been thwarted completely, unless I buy an old used one off ebay. My research uncovered the newer Chromebooks have eMMC or soldered hard drives.

I have heard of Gallium.

The new Chromebooks have Debian 9 already running just a few clicks away. I can access the whole apt Repository and also use Linux apps from within the Chromebook OS. All that plus the entire Android app collection it's really pretty cool. I picked up the Chromebook because my arm is in a sling for several weeks. Ironically, I am happy to do command line in Linux but I only have one hand to do it with LOL.

Hello,
Yes you can remove the security screw, flash your bios and make it a pc.
