Anyone tried a toner refill for a laser printer off ebay?

I've heard somebody here say they tried an ebay toner refill kit and it worked well. Anyone tried it? I need new toner for my Samsung ML-1740 but it's like $80 at Staples. I think I paid less for the printer when I bought it lol.

I'm interested to know also. My 1740 has been awsome, but the original toner cartridge is just about empty. You can only get so much out of it by taking it out and shaking it. ;)

I have an ml-1740. I just ordered one of those refill kits from a store online and I should get it on monday, so once I do I will post again to let you know how it works. I love the printer, but the fact that Samsung has said they will not support this printer with drivers for winxp 64-bit really leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth for the future.

Yeah, I'd definately be interested in hearing how well it works. Where did you get it and how much was it? The kit I was looking at on ebay included a 3-pack of refills plus a screw-on funnel for about $18 shipped, which is much nicer than $80 :D

Yeah, I'm really pleased with this printer. It prints well and isn't ugly. My only complaint other than toner costs is that it makes the light in the room flicker. I'm thinking about getting an Automatic Voltage Regulator. I heard that using an AVR with a laser will only make the lights flicker 2 or 3 times, like once for the initial surge, then once for when the AVR kicks on. Newegg has a nice one for about $20:

I have a samsung ML-4500, I refilled it, works great. One thing about the cost of toner: Realize how much (more) you get out of that $80 cartridge. A set of color/black for a decent inkjet is about half the cost, but your toner lasts through probably 10+ sets.

If your lights flicker then you have a home electrical problem. I would get your wires looked at and have your fusebox replaced with something that can give you more amperage distributed to less outlets.

Absolutely......Too much draw on that circuit

Well, I would probably have to disagree with you there though that depends on the definition of "flicker". I have gone through three laser printers in two homes (one was a three year old apt and the other is a brand new townhouse) and all three laser printers cause the lights to dim slightly for about 1/2 of a second (or less) every 20 or 30 seconds while they are in use. This happens in any room on any circuit. It is not unlike the dimming that happens when you turn on your psu in your comp. Basically it's just because there is a heavy draw momentarily and it takes the lines a split second to catch up, nothing to worry about.

And as for the refill kits, I bought one of those two packs with the funnel to refill an old okidata laser and it was a disaster. Toner everywhere and black smears on every sheet printed after that. It probably had more to do with user error but I ended up tossing the printer after that (which was not a big deal as the printer had been free). Hopefully you will have much better luck than I did!

I have not tried to refill my Samsung printer yet but I have refilled my HP LaserJet 1012 with a refill kit from The Printer Ink Warehouse and I'm not very happy with the results. I was able to refill the cartridge with no problems (though I did not follow their directions because I found what seemed to be a better way) but the print quality has gone down significantly. Now everything the printer prints is very light (except maybe text) and just doesn't look very good. I should have just bought the HP cartridge.

well that certainly doesn't bode well for my success with that product then. I have seen the toner cartridges online for as little as $45, up into the $75-$80 range. I got the printer for like $99 after rebate, and it pains me that for $20 extra dollars on top of the price of toner I could just buy another printer. I'm in law school so I have to write and print out stuff all the time, and I never need to print anything in color, so the monochrome laser printer is my best option right now

Most printers sell with an "economy" cartridge (i.e not full). Buying a new cartridge will net you many many more prints.

And tbh, I followed the refill instructions and it worked great. The guide from the seller did say not to refill more then 2 times (max) as print quality and chance for the waste hopper to overflow were much higher.
