my doc gave me prescriptions, along with paxil. been taking paxil for a month now, but for me it only helps slightly.
told me to be careful with xanax because its highly addictive and habit forming. just to be used for sort term. just wondering if anyone took xanax before, and how you felt

I've taken it....but not by prescription. I couldn't sleep heading into finals week and took half a xanax. My brain allowed me to close my eyes and sleep for a good 8 hours about 30-45 minutes after I took it.

That's my limited experience with xanax, so I don't really know firsthand about how habit forming it is. It sure didn't feel like something I could get addicted to.

Everything you just said was correct. Listen to your doctor.

Sometimes it takes months for you to feel the full effect of an antidepressant. I wouldn't take too much Xanax. It will make you feel good short term, but the more you take the less effective it is.

Yeah...Xanax is about the most addictive drug out there.

Paxil typically takes 4-6 weeks to have an effect. Also, what dosage? If it's 10mg, it may not do any good and you may have to go to 20mg.

<---- was on Paxil last year and reconsidering going back on it.

so far ive been taking paxil 20mg for a month. got a refill today for same dosage. for xanax its 25mg. im wondering if 20mg gives me slight benefits, maybe upping the dosage will give me more benefit, maybe like 40 or 60mg.

Alprazolam is a benzodiazephine and from the same family as Lorazepam, Oxazepam etc.

You take them as needed, they are downers. Highly addictive. They do the job well with out feeling drugged or sedated, but you can become dependant on them quickly.

If a paradoxical reaction occurs you should consider taking something else, like buspirone with is what you should take in the first place if its to treat anxiety+Depression or any other related combination of mental health issues.

Thats because you had a different problem than for which Alprazolam is perscribed. The drug was pretty much useless for you. Had you continued to take it you most likely would have ended up severly depressed.

Actually, I'm mildly manic-depressive...but that's neither here nor there. :)

A typical "if this is good, more must be better" mentality. You're not alone in thinking this.

Whatever you do, just trust your doctor. Weird things can happen when you fook with the dosage of your meds. Yes, it might take a "long" time to finally settle on a dosage, but it's worth it.

Well then Xanax is not what you should have been perscribed. You should have been put on something like Tegretol or Depakene. An anti-depressant can cause a bipolar person into a manic state. speed you up. Which is why you couldnt sleep for example. You needed a mood stabalizer like lithium which will deminish manic phases.

Personally, I couldn't stand being on a mood stabilizer. It feels like I'm in a stupor all the time and I'd rather have the ups and downs of life, no matter how far those extremes swing.

Try shock therapy. It actually does work and well for people with bipolar.

There are no side effects.

And, there's no way you're on 25mg of Xanax! A friend of mine STARTED on 0.25mg!

No I'm serious. They usually only give it to the elderly, stuff like that. I't's been proven to work. It's not shocks in the literal sense.

Electroshock therapy is a treatment of last resort. The only reason you'ld use it on someone is if medication didn't work.

Just like medication there is no clear knowledge of how it works, and it doesn't always. We know that it changes brain chemistry, other than that...

To say there are no side effects is not completetly true either. There can be short term or even long term memory loss in some side effects. It's certainly come along way, and it definately works for some, but you'ld have to be in a seriously bad way for your doctor to even suggest it.

I had Xanax prescribed to me when I had my wisdome teeth pulled out. I only had three, pretty potent stuff...don't really remember too much of what happened when I took them.

one night, I took six Xanax, smoked three seperate times, and drank to high hell. I got into a huge fight, was arrested and jailed, and then sued, among other things.

I won the court case though :D

Xanax calms your nerves and it should only be used while you are adjusting or getting into your Paxil. Once you're on you should start to feel better. If not, there are many other SSRI medications you can try.

I am currently taking Lexapro for OCD and General Anxiety Disorder. I'm doing well so far, I implement Cognitive Behavioral Therapy into my life daily. This means facing the disorder head on.

Also, SSRIs usually take six to eight weeks to fully feel its strength.
