anyone take "Fundamentals of Solaris 8 Operating System for System Adminsitrators" (SA-118)?

Did you take the Sun exam... what sort of things did they ask? I've started the class and I want to start to focus on what they'll ask on the exam.

Isnt that really expensive? They sent me information on their classes, ut at like $2k a pop I decided against it.

yeah it runs about 2-3g's if you take it from sun... but i'm fortunate enough that a JC (Coastline) that's about 30 mins from me is offering the course and they are fully sanctioned by Sun themselves, as a matter of fact Sun set them up... so i'm paying a whopping $43 for the class... well plus $125 for course materials.

Im thinking of saving up for more SANS classes instead of sun, but I should probably look around and see what I can find.

i found out about this class... well it was a fluke. my CCNP instructor who teaches at this place as well as where he's teaching my class was talking about Coastline and the classes it offered as he was rolling the course names the mention of 'sun' caused my ears to stand.

it was one bitch of a process to get into the class since it was already in it's third week. fortunately, the instructor was pretty cool and let me in.

the reason i'm up is, i'm making up assignments.

if you wanna take a cheap solaris class yer best bet is to contact Sun Education and ask them who their authorized centers are... they'll give you a list and find out which course on that list is offered at a JC.. and well you too will be paying $43.

btw... i've heard of this SANS stuff alot... but I still dunno what it is... what is it?

I dont know about that particular course, but I've taken SA-238 and SA-288(Solaris Sysadmin I&II), and while there's no "included" test, there is a test where those courses are the preq's, and from what I've heard, it's not something you should try until you've had quite a bit of time to make practical use of the stuff you learned at the courses.
In other words it's real hard.

Dont know if the exam you're referring to is as hard or not, but... well there you go

Oh and yes, those courses are expensive as hell, the Sysadmin I&II came with a packet price of a low low $3.7K.

another funny thing about this class, since it uses all Sun material and they have a special agreement with Sun is that you need to sign a statement stating if you drop this class, you must return the materials to the school and that you will not be reinbursed for the materials... once you turn in the statement only then can you purchase the course materials.

SA-118 is the precursor to Sysadmin 1&2.

Coastline Community College. The adminstrative offices are in Fountain Valley, California (orange counry) but this is a campus w/o a campus. They are scattered all across many buildings througout the OC area.
