I posted about my knee being inflamed the past month recently. I wanted to start a discussion about Collagen Peptides. This is a supplement that I read about in a body building book. They can help with joints, bone, muscle, and skin.

"Collagen peptides are highly bioavailable. They act as building blocks, renewing bodily tissues, such as skin, bones and joints. ... Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated collagen peptides' health benefits. Key areas of benefit include healthy aging, joint and bone health, sports nutrition and skin beauty."

You see a lot of people that show before and after pictures of their skin/wrinkles. I'm just curious if they'll help my knees. I ordered some for $26 from Amazon and drops a scoop in some OJ. This morning, I put a scoop in my coffee. I'm going to try a scoop a day and see if I can tell any difference. Reviews seem to mostly be good....for my knee, I'd settle for the placebo since I need it to get back to normal.

I took them for a short time, mostly because I received one as a prize and then decided to keep taking it, but I didn't really notice any difference that I could justify the additional $50+ a month. Your results may vary, but I'm in my late 20's and didn't feel the need.

Yeah....collagen production drops off in your 30s so it may not help younger folks as much. I doubt ingestion of a supplement will really make a difference. Most are just passed through your system...but I can tell some differences after 3-4 days. No noticable improvement on my knee yet, which is what I need...but it may be helping my digestive system (or hurting it, depending on your definition)

6 (3x2) fish oil caps/day. Give it 2 weeks.

Also quad stretch and roll the IT band.
I started taking MCT oil in my coffee along with the collagen peptides. I am actually healing up a little, but can't tell if it's just time or what. A few PT's told me that I probably tore my PCL...that I can probably run on it without doing more damage to it. I ordered a couple of knee braces from Amazon that will be here Sunday. I plan on throwing a support on there before I do more sustained exercise....

I'm taking MCT oil for a variety of reasons, but probably should start taking fish oil again as well... For joint health, as well as to pull more cholesterol from my blood. I've got bad chemistry when it comes to that stuff unless I'm in full beast mode running 6 days a week.
