I take classes all the time. Though I do admit, there has been more than a couple of times, my mind wasn't moved at all by thte class at the local JC/community college. I have found taking classes at the local exension center at your state college has been much better on keeping me occupied.

The CC route is good for taking classes in things tha tyou have never dealt with before. I took some accounting classes that were help ful (IT manager here) and then a welding class. I took a communications class, some programming stuff, that were totally worthless. I could have gotten as much by reading a bok on my own.

The extension center is much for expensive, but also goes towards CEUS that you might need for certifications or are just more challenging.

I'm taking night classes at MATC here in madison. I took a oral/interpersonal communications class last semester. The first week of class the instructor informed us that he never gives any grade below a B. At first I did not believe him, but then after awhile I got bored with the material as we were doing absolutely no oral/interpersonal communications. So I decided to stop doing any of the work and just show up for class each week and observe. Sure enough he was true to his word. I did only about 1/3 of the work and slapped together a final paper. I ended up getting an AB.

I jest grajewayted from a comyewnitee koledge...

I ar naow a koledge grajewayte.

I suspect any college, university, job, or anything else in life, is mostly gonna be what YOU make of it.

I got lucky...I only had one professor who seemed uninterested in teaching the class, but it was a very low-level computer literacy class (required for the degree) and he NORMALLY taught higher-level CS classes and just had a tough time "dumbing his lecture down" to the level required for this class.

Otherwise, every professor I had, whether full-time and tenured, or part-time "adjuncts," were devoted to what they did...and demanded excellence of their students. (most graded very hard as well...only one actually used a bell curve...the rest just told you up front that <60% = F, 61-70% = D, 71-80% = C, 81-90% = B, 91% and over = A.)

must be nice, half my teachers are horrible and do a half-ass job, and that goes for part-timers and the full time instructors. only a couple that ive had were demanding in what they expected of students.

Then again, Im taking tech courses in a rural area so Im not really sure that thats ever going to change. The only reason my best tech teacher is in the area is because of his kids, otherwise he'd rather be up around raleigh.

I did, but I was in high school and it was basically due to my ghetto HS running out of classes for me. I wasn't required to take, but they were footing most of the bill and the credit transferred to the college I was going to.

Math or Physics?

I am still at CC finishing up my preparation for a transfer, and from what I've gathered:

CIS type class: Very easy
Any liberal arts type class: Easy
Political science or history type class: Average, can be difficult depending on instructor.
Math: Somewhat difficult
Science: Difficult

These are generalizations, and of course the difficulty of the class is heavily dependent on the instructor (especially for more liberal arts type classes). The instructors for the science classes all had doctarates, the Math and Political Science/History at least had a graduate degree and some were TAs for the local universities. The liberal arts instructors were a mixed bag. The CIS instructors were totally laid back and didn't seem to care much.

No. Thought about it a bunch of times, but now that I have a job, no way I want to spend the time on any course that may just help me slightly. Just save it all for a masters and leach off the company until then.

anyway, I took night class before, generally I got way too tired during class cuz it was right after work. But since I did for a degree and you will be doing it for pleasure, you might get something out of it.

I took a bunch of classes way back when, to get my second bachelor's in Computer Science (already had a music degree). Also took classes at some of the regular colleges around here. I found that the CC profs had actually worked in the industry, which was good for me since the only reason I was getting the degree because I had a programming job. The "regular" profs were from academia, no real-world experience.

Also, the night classes were geared towards a wider range of folks - sometimes they were really intense, because people were interested, sometimes they were a little slower than day classes because people were tired.

My oldest daughter got her Associate's Degree in math at the CC, went on to the State College for her BS. Not really any difference in the classes or type of prof for her. My younger son is currently attending the same Community College. It's become really insane to try and get into his required courses, with the economy and all.

I did about a year after I graduated from college (2000). I had a pretty poor GPA so I retook one subject at a community college and took a new statistics course for fun. Both of which I aced so when I was applying to MBA programs this year those community college night courses did help boost my application.

Outside of that, it was sort of fun. I personally had a different mindset when I took them. As a undergraduate college student, going to class seemed like "work" and not something I really wanted to do. When I took the community college courses it seemed to me more of a fun hobby thing, so I enjoyed it so much more. It was a difference in my mental approach.

I've been taking night classes for years now, all leading towards various certifications. I'm currently in class #2 (out of 4) for the CCNA. I should be able to take my CCNA exam in January or so.

I cannot recommend night classes highly enough. Especially if you have a CC that's worth a damn. I go to Seminole Community College, and their networking facilities are top-notch. I've taken 12 classes there since 2003, and each has been good experience. Plus the classes are as cheap as hell ($60 per credit hour).

I enjoyed my time at CC night classes. It's definitely a low priced way to get back into going back to school, vs night classes at a 4 year school.
