I have a sleep study coming up soon. Dr suspects I have sleep apnea. I am overweight.

I am wondering if I lose weight if the sleep apnea will disappear or is this a life long disease that will happen no matter what my weight?

I do have sleep apnea and was first diagnosed with it when I weighed in the 185-190lbs range. I am a bit heavier but working on losing the pounds but am unsure whether this will alleviate my problems with sleep apnea. They do say in some people weight loss can remedy it, but not in all cases.

Basically, you stop breathing temporarily when you sleep.

And from what I've read, you can stop it from occurring with drastic weight loss. Otherwise, it's the CPAP machine for you.

If you're not THAT overweight, then losing weight probably won't do much for ya.

i do, i stop breathing sometimes at night, REALLY loud snoring, etc. no health ins right now or I would get it checked out. my dad has it and wears a weird mask thing to bed, he says it's the best he's slept in years.

oh and i've had it for a long time. even when i was super skinny... 140# 6'

My dad does, and has the CPAP machine. He's overweight as well...and pretty much staying that way. He sleeps better, but says he pulls the mask off in the middle of the night a few times a month.

Depends on if it's central (nervous system) or obstructive (floppy airways/fat).

I have sleep apnea, but I only stop breathing when on my back. I'm not overweight.
