Anyone here subscribe to the Motley Fool newsletters, like Hidden Gems or Stock Investor? Are they any good? I'm looking to invest in stocks since I rolled over an old 401k from funds to my own broker.

I used to subscribe to Hidden Gems and Stock Investor. I thought Hidden Gems was great, but Stock Investor was horrible IMO. The community is great, and you can learn a lot regarding investing. However, steep subscription fees aren't worth it if you have low funds to invest.

Consider buying and holding stock index mutual funds or ETFs.

No trading fees, no newsletter to pay for, and no work since you're holding forever.

I already have a boatload of index funds and ETFs, as well as mutual funds. Almost all of them have been good (at least as good as the S&P 500 this year), but I am looking for stocks I can buy and hold.

Seems a lot of articles I've read on various sites are saying to invest in foreign markets. I'm picking up a few ETFs in China and soon in Germany.
As for US based companies, I have BRCD and Yahoo to round out my list.

I follow stock advisor and just signed up for the Million Dollar Portfolio (invitation only & currently closed, although I think they invited 1/2 of the free world to join first)

Stock Advisor is pretty good, what I've done is load their picks into my ticker, and pick out the proven performers. IMHO, thy hold onto the dogs too long. MDP is unknown at this point, their goal is to make a million into a billion in 50 years.

For the $100 they charge it's money well spent... I don't have time to do all the analysis needed to make prudent investments, I use them as a screen & then re screen them myself.

If you're not happy, they'll refund you your $, although you have to dig a bit to find the link.
