Anyone still running SP1a?

I recently upgraded my computer and thus reformatted, and I saw no need to install SP2 as I had before. The stupid security center drives me crazy, and I don't feel like finding my SP2 CD or downloading the 400 MB update.

All my XP machines are running Service Pack 2, if you don't like Security Center you can disable it but there's plenty other things worth installing it for.

Improved Wireless and Bluetooth support are very useful as are the improvements to IE. SP2 has been discussed on these forums so many times, if you search I'm sure you'll find a lot more improvements that makes it worth installing.

Do their SP2 Limited or no connectivity patches work yet ?
I have tried it on a couple of systems (back in the days when I used to have a win machine) and all of them lost network connction.
The patches never worked and I had to do a format and put SP1a (yes because I didn't archive the install).
I think back then is when I switched to Linux I just couldn't take it anymore.

Disable security center: http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/securitycenter/

1) SP2 is available on CD from MS at no cost
2) Download the SP2 network install and burn it to a cd, or save on a spare drive

I have the CD, I'm just too lazy to find it.

You can just disable the Security Center by going to Run and typing in Services.msc. Then disable the Security Center Service. Very easy.

Being lazy is no excuse for not having a secure PC. SP2 takes 3 minutes to install. And if you have Broadband, there is no reason why you shouldn't have installed it already. The only reason someone would probably be running SP1a today is if you are in a corporate enviroment. But a lot of the businesses I have been to have deployed SP2 last year.

I'm guessing you don't lock your car doors too because your just to lazy?

Bugfixes 😕

I'm on SP2 at home, but at work we're still on 1a. We can move up once we upgrade our version of SAV Server.

About the only real reason to not go to SP2 would be that you (or your admins) are to lazy to address application compatability. Everyone should upgrade to SP2.
